As some of you may know, there has been a bit of action brewing in the Sword Making section. Member Michael Kerley, aka Mikeeman, has proposed a contest between our forums knife makers. The contest will be held in the spirit of the TV competition, Forged in Fire. Each smith will tender a blade to be made within a given time frame and within a given style. It will then be tested and judged. The tester will be forumite Chrisperoni.
The opening rounds style will be an eating/utility style blade, the blade being from four to six inches in length. Competitors will be given a time frame to forge and complete the knife. Since the smiths hail from different areas, and it may not be feasible to ask each to video document hours of forging, heat treating and finishing work, we will be going with the honor system on this. Luckily, all our smiths are stand up guys, so cheating is not likely. The competitors will also be given guidelines as to what equipment can be used to make their blades.
As the competition progresses, new challenges and guidelines will be given. Timelines will be provided at a later date so that competitors from farther away will have ample time to let their submissions arrive. Judging criteria will be submitted for each style.
To date, the members who have signed on are:
Michael Kerley(akaMikeeman)
Tom Kinder(akaTomK)
Wes(aka Lonely Wolf Forge)
Marc Sanford(aka SanMarc)
Henry Vila(aka DigsFossils-n-Knives)
Lyndle Driggers(aka fallen)
Luke Graham(aka Freq)
Ken Addams(aka Azrael1)
Jeffery Burlison(aka balimund21)
Upon initiation of the contest, a new thread detailing the making and judging of the knives will be created so that forum members can follow along. Hope to see you all there.
Lastly, the competitors have decided that all the blades submitted in the competition will be donated to SBG as prizes for a future giveaway!
Stay tuned for updates!
P.S. - To the contenders; please send your forging and finishing/finished photos to sbg.moderation.staff@zoho.com. You can also send them to me here in a PM. A Photobucket link would be best, but anything will do. We will keep tabs on who's is what, and provide updates to those who wish to follow along. Thanks.
