I stumbled upon this "full tang fighting knife" at a site that SBG has linked to before, and was wondering if anyone has this knife or could give me any insight as to if it is worth it? I really, really like it a lot. www.trueswords.com/full-tang-fighting-knife-guard-p-2903.htmlI can't find it anywhere else, though, just at trueswords.com

It is stainless steel, but at that length, you don't have much to worry about. The design of the knife is obviously fantasy based, and I question the sturdiness of those wierd bars that connect the blade to the hilt.

Check this knife out. Fulltang and weighs 1 lb 12 oz. Heavy enough to make some good cuts. It also came with a cool sheath that attaches to the belt and also ties around the leg like a cowboy's gun hostler. I bought it at an antique shop for $10 !!! Lady wanted to get it out of her store. Here you can see it in scale. Then again there is old faithful. Official US Marine Corp K-BAR I found this one in an abandoned car 16 years ago. Sheath and all! Weighs 12 oz

I really, really like it a lot. www.trueswords.com/full-tang-fighting-knife-guard-p-2903.htmlI can't find it anywhere else, though, just at trueswords.com There's nothing wrong with the design, as such, or the fact that it's stainless steel. The problem with a knife at that price is that it may have absolutely no heat treat at all. They may have just cut it out of a piece of bar stock, ground/polished it to shape, and that's it. If you really love the look, it would make a fine display piece, but I wouldn't get my hopes up about using it for anything else, unfortunately. You could email trueswords and see if they can tell you whether it's been heat treated or not, but even they may not know for sure. I've bought some cheap knives that turned out to be pretty tough and also held a decent edge (I got lucky, in other words), so you never know for sure, but it's a real gamble.

I cant stress this enough about bowies, ka-bar ka-bar ka-bar ka-bar!!!!!! Even the old usmc tsafa has is good, the new one is the Ka-bar fighting knife, easily cuts through fish bones and is very rust resistant and useful in the field/bush. Heres a Link www.kabar.com/product_detail.jsp?productNumber=1221&mode=search&categoryId=1,2,3,7,9&categoryName=Product%20Search%20Results Believe me you will not be dissapointed, and also i bought mine on ebay for $53 so dont get ripped off, knives are alot more different than swords, you are alot less likely to get a bad one. P.S. if you like a more classic look you could get the leather one

I have a Ka-Bar actually used in WW2. It was my great cousins, and I found it in our garage. It works great, and it resilient as anything. I love it, and heavily encourage anyone who's looking for a good knife to get one.

I don't like knives without a guard. Hand can slip down too easy and cut your fingers. Even if you are just working around a campsite and working with wood I like a guard.
