Looks very interesting brenno.....but I think you might want to check the scale of the pommel to the cross in the drawing....maybe it's just me, but the pommel looks too small or the cross too large. I look forward to seeing this in the steel. Dan

Bren: Sorry, if you didn't realise I was joking with the whole hand and a half comment. Thanks for the other website though, I really love those lava looking burls you picked up. I will need to peruse their wares and see if I can find anything that I like the look of.

Dan your totally right. They were just guesses, I haven't got the parts yet so I just winged that part. I did the pommel at 5cm wide and the cross at 15cm wide - which may be too wide.
BW, nah your cool, I get it. I just saw an opening for some wet humour.
sl4k - maybe if you pay for me to come to Sweden I'd take you up on that, can't wait to come to Europe.

Bren: How much would something like that set someone back to get one made like that?

Wow, how did I totaly miss this thread? Are you going to wire wrap the end of your Dragon's Bane sword? That would look perfect!
Those look like hilt fittings for a left hand dagger that would go with a rapier. How about another serpentine blade for that? Long and slender.

I don't know about covering any of that beautiful blackwood. I too thought it looked like one of those. What do you call it, gauch? I thought about a wave blade as well. Or a short cut and thruster. With a sizable pommel something like this would be very lively. Anyone else got some ideas?

Bren: I would go with a tapering wide bladed cut and thrust sword, maybe I can draw something and get a picture of it, where did the fittings come from? Also a thin bladed sabre would be ideal to.

BW: Sounds great. Please do post some pics to close the gap between my imagination and yours. I'd love to get everyone who reads this to post their designs, no matter how crude. I'm gonna pay karma for those that do.

I did a painting of what I would like to see with those furniture, the handle is supposed to be brass chain-wrapped leather. The sword is about 97 cm tall.

Hey sl4k. I do like your design. Is the blade fluted and what is the approximate blade width/length? Looks like it would be an effective cutter and thruster. How would you class it as a sword type?

Thanks Alvin, it's fluted, the shape is like this: Total length 97 cm/38,8 inch, blade length 80cm/32inch, 3cm/1,2inch wide. No idea what class but I was just thinking cutting/thrusting sword, light enough to be wielded in one hand but you could squeeze in another when needed.

The blade is too plain sI4k, with Bren he likes embellishment.

Thanks for teh painting Sl4k. +1 But I have two problems with that: I cant do wide fullers with my curent equipment. I can only to narrow ones, and they come up a little wobbly so I prefer to just leave them diamond section. Also as BW stated it is a little straight and plain. I do like to have a more complex sculpted blade. But thanks anyway, have another go.
BW wheres your pics?

Oh yeah, I forgot about that, I really should draw one for you. Give me a bit Here you go mate Sorry about the proportions, but I would be thinking the blade would be as wide as you can make it, tapering down to a wicked point, it would be 36" long overall with a 7 or 8 inch handle, leaving you a 28 inch blade. It has five fullers to give it the proper balance in the hand, they are only thin shallow fullers on one side of the blade and don't have to be perfectly cut to be effective. The grip is wire wrapped and the cross section of the blade would probably be lenticular with an apple seed bevel You cut with the smooth side and the jagged side would make the thrust very very deadly.

Nice BW! So a 70mm blade tapering like a triangle down to a wicked point (more acute than your sketch i reckon). I like the way you think. That serrated thrusting idea is wrong, man. +1 : and more for anyone else's sketches. these are quite fine fittings. So I'd like to keep the blade around 24". Also so I can heat treat it myself.
