Good day,
I'm looking for a Folded Steel billet to then be cut to profile.
The goal would then for me to be able to tinker and grind for a project blade (stock removal). That way, all the major dimensions and lines should be more or less clean.
Any recommendations on either a source for the billet, or for a cutting service? Or both?
Cheers,

Bringing this thread back.
Looking to purchase a folded steel blade blank. Straight, 30 inch, fullered... Viking style.
Give me recommendations please!

I got a pattern welded sword blade from China. There's a thread I posted in the reviews subforum and the customization subforum.
That's a great looking job you did on the furnishings of that sword. Looked up Sinosword... do they only do oriental swords now? Now... I hope this doesn't sound terribly critical. You paid $300 for a really great looking blade, I certainly wouldn't take anything away from that. But it also wasn't completely to the speck you wanted. The blade I first posted... yeah, it's $600. But it does have the wider fuller you were looking for, and (by their site at least) they say it's 5.2 mm thick at the tang, and tapers to 3.2 mm... which is much closer to what you were looking for. Crazy long tang on it though... 13 inches....

Its pretty cheap for a pattern welded blade but it also dsa so i dont think its a good buy imo, pattern welded blades usually run alot more if u commission one Why would you not think it's a good buy just because it's a DSA? And I mean that honestly... I'm tracking that there was a scandal with regard to their tang size... The SBG has an article that I've read on it... they seem to back up DSA. Honestly, I'm sketched out about the fit and finish of most blades... That's kinda why I'd rather a blade blank that I can then do up the sword furniture on my own. When others fit a handle on... you have no control over how much they're grinding down a tang to make their life easier.

Holy hell, 600USD for a blade blank. What's next, an extra 200USD will allow a person to kiss their butts? No thanks Don't forget it's forged in Canada and it must be darn expensive to hide all their smiths from the cameras! The Windlass Damascus Viking Sword with hilt and scabbard costs regular $ 450 at MRL and $ 300 - 380 at KoA. I noticed the Windlass Damascus Viking Sword... Question about that. What is it only a Damascus pattern in the fuller?

An alternate solution would be appreciated as well. If 600 USD sounds unreasonable... what is reasonable? Where would reasonable be found?

It's from Darksword. My papa does have a tap and die set, but I don't think it's that tough of one, I would trust it for repairing already existing threads... I was just looking for an easy way out Well... that and the blade is the expensive part of this build, don't want to screw up the threads. I figured it would be an easy go for a machine shop. But the machine shops in my area (Ottawa) don't want to touch it as it looks too hard.

Hey all,
Little advice please. I have a sword blade, and I'd like it threaded for my project. I'm having difficulty finding a machine shop that would be able to thread it. They all say it's too hard and will break their tools. Any advice?
Thank you
