Bought a katana from Couchsamurai (my first non-European sword) and he was excellent to deal with, shipped ASAP and did a terrific job protecting the sword in transit! I'd buy from him again in a heartbeat!

I'm in the same state of shock and sadness as the rest of you. Adrian was always a great person to deal with and I will miss seeing his posts here, especially his avatar...I'll never forget it and how many times it brought a smile to my face.

Congratulations! In less than 48 hours you've managed to annoy the majority of the members who have offered advice to help you improve your review skills. I now have no interest in watching your videos since it is clear you lack the ability or desire to take criticism. I do not think he means to, he asked for advice and bit off more than he could chew. People here have very very strong opinions on certain sword matters and it can get ugly quick when 2 people disagree on here. The OP doesn’t agree with some people’s opinions which kinda set off a bombshell on both parties sides. At the end of the day no big deal imo. Agree to disagree. Maybe I've seen too many examples on forums where someone decides to post a review of an item right out of the gate, asks for criticism and then turns around and begins arguing with those who gave the very criticism the original poster professed to request. In those cases, after a few exchanges, it becomes clear the poster doesn't want criticism but instead wants affirmation. To me, this seemed to be following the same pattern.

I don't own any Asian swords yet, but I am impressed by this jian! Something about the blade profile really calls to me, it just looks really nicely done. The hand-painted artwork on the scabbard does look nice, but I think I'd prefer a plain black lacquered one with those bronze fittings. Especially if it would help shave a few bucks off the price. Every time I try to save up a little bit of money to buy a sword after selling off almost everything for my dog's surgery this past Spring, something else comes up and wipes it out, otherwise I would have placed an order by now! Very nice work KK and thanks for the historical information as well!

Amazon has crazy mistakes on pricing sometimes. I ended up with an item that normally sells for $100 for $1 with free prime shipping once. I was worried they'd cancel the order, but they didn't and shipped it anyway!
I think the issue here is if the item is shipped from Amazon's warehouses or the seller direct. If the items are at the warehouse they may ship anyway since that's the price the seller set, error or not, but if its from the seller directly they'll have more control and likely catch an error, if there is one.
Good luck y'all and I hope everything is in great shape for the lucky folks who snagged them!

Someone must have gone nuts because I can't find anything left!
One thing I noticed is that they're shipping from North Carolina, not sure where though, so keep an eye on those items as they might be water damaged from the hurricane. It's still a good price even if you have to do a little rust removal, though!

Well, my Cawood was purchased in January of 2018 and it is magnetic, both the guard and pommel. I used a fridge magnet like Christian did and it's not super strongly magnetic, but you can feel the pull and the magnet will stick to both.

Just straight from the factory the guard and pommel look really nice to me. Not mirror polished, but not dull either. The guard is thick and sturdy enough that I'm not worried about it being damaged if I had to use it and I'm sure it would be good protection.
Just to confirm what Edelweiss said, I just took a magnet to both the guard and pommel and they are magnetic.
Out of the swords I have left, my Cawood would be the one I'd grab if I had to use one to defend myself!

That's horrible news. I hope things turn around and you can get back on your feet soon, aussie-rabbit. Stay patient, positive and remember things are just stuff, you can always replace or rebuild them.

Great review Dave! Like quite a few others, I'm pleasantly surprised how well it did and I'm really glad to see the tang looks good and the scabbard is so well built! The weight is a little more than I personally would like on a one hander, but the pob probably negates that...it's definitely given me some something to think about! Thanks, yea the weight isnt too bad and the low PoB does make it more maneuverable. It is two handed though, the grip with pommel is 9" so plenty of room for two hand with space between and the grip itself is 6" so pretty average for a bastard type sword. Yeah, I should have said it better, but your review made it clear it's a true 2-hander for me considering the weight. The POB shows it would be a nimble 2-hander though, so it's worth looking at. That was the biggest surprise from the whole thing, I assumed this was a 1-hander from the stock photos but it turned out to be a whole honkin' 2-hander!

Congrats Dave! I know you'll give us some accurate measurements (weight and pob, especially), some sweet cutting action and hopefully a look "under the hood" at the grip construction!

I'll admit, that sword does look interesting. I don't know why we haven't seen more "classic" patterned medieval style swords with modern grip materials. The A.P.O.C. line comes to mind, but their short blade length and lack of a real guard keeps me from getting one. I'd be interested in knowing the weight, pob, and tang/grip construction, not to mention handling impressions from a reviewer here.
I'm sure anyone here who's put their name forward would do a great job, but I'll add another vote for Aikidoka. His cutting videos are some of the best around and it would be cool to see just what a sword from United Cutlery could do in his hands.

For any members contemplating a Windlass rapier, it looks like they've restarted their Deal of the Day program, which is hands-down the cheapest way to get one of their better models. Keep an eye on it and it will likely pay off pretty nicely!

I had hoped this would have been more successful, but I'm glad it looks like Paul will be able to recoup some of his investment.
Congrats to those who have bought what will be part of a very small run of collectable swords and much respect to Paul for taking a chance with such an ambitious project!

I can't really help you when it comes to rapiers, but I can say that I really, really liked the Kingston Arms Renaissance Side Sword I recently sold. Once my finances improve I'm going to set aside the cash for it so when it comes back in stock I'll be able to nab one. They're WELL within your budget, so I'd strongly recommend you get one if you can find it!

Nice re-review. Still have mine as well and enjoy it plenty. Honestly I think you might be on to something with these re-reviews. Giving second impressions after extended time with a specific sword you've reviewed before would be good info for buyers interested in how they hold up in the long run. I may have to post a few since I've owned most of my collection for over five years. Probably do one on my H/T Bastard since its my oldest owned European sword thats still in production. Yeah, the real catch imo for swords is how they hold up over time. Some are great the first week of owning but fall apart after repeated usage for a few months. I agree. Re-reviews are nice to see, especially since we've lost pictures/older reviews here and there.

No worries Zaba. I just found the 'ganging up' label odd since I was just stating my view of the situation, which a few others happened to agree with.
OP, you've made your decision on keeping the sword, have said your peace here and hopefully learned a few things about dealing with customer service and ordering online.
