I am new to the forum and wanted to know how I post pictures, from offline, in the threads? I have some questions regarding a sword and need to post the pictures in order for other members to see it and give feedback. Thanks.

The pictures need to be linked from another web site. Right click on the picture, copy and past the url then put [.img]url[./img] The periods inside the brackets should not be there, but I needed to do that so you could see the code. Or reply to a message on the forum, paste the url in, then highlight the url and click on the "Insert Image" icon in the "Add Tags" section. This will add the code on both ends of the url. For example www.silvermane.com/acatalog/CI-SH2294.jpg with the above code becomes:

My fellow forumnites explained pretty much everything you need to know to post your pcitures, in my opinion.
Another thing : I don't know if it is possible to post pictures on this forum while offline. When I need to post anything (threads, posts, pictures, movies, ect), I have to be online. If there is a trick to post offline, I don't know it ...
Hope this helps

Please use a free hosting site and not someone else's webpages. Bandwidth costs money, hence we see the lovely advertisement banners hre on SBG. It is like running an extension cord to someone elses house. Everytime the image above is downloaed by opening the thread, bandwidth occurs.
Keep in mind copyright as well. Silvermane is up the road here in Massachusetts, not on a free image hosting site. That may be a stock picture but the bandwidth being used is Silvermane's. Of course, if you have ok'd that cost to Sivlermane, all well and good.
Two simple searchs on the internet that any posting pictures might want to learn a little bit about.
Hotlinking
Bandwidth Theft
Not to forget copyright but that is more a gray area than outright theft.
Just some thoughts

Hotspur; the problem is often that many don't give it any thought of impropriety but it is not unlike heading off someone else's pizza dleivery to suit your own appetite

You gonna post every time someone posts an image from someone else's website? Site's have the means to prevent people from hotlinking if they find it is such a problem.
EDIT: Instead of posting it in every thread that hotlinks an image or video, you can try posting a thread in Off-Topic or something letting people who don't know about it what are the effects and laws regarding it. Cause I guarantee you'll get more sympathy via that method than hijacking others threads because someone decided to hotlink an image.

Hotlinking and bandwidth theft is quite topical to others posting someone elses images. Posting their own picture hosting as well.
Mileage may vary but I believe I have kept my griping about it to a minimum. It seems to me that those most often that couldn't care less are just fine with someone elses paying their frieght.
For this site to condone the activity only highlights the basic ignorance and concerns by others. For someone with a moniker of Old School, I find your contrary regard of internet use as a babe in the woods.

Hotspur; I believe most here pay for bandwidth one way or another

Well the reason I even brought it up is that you posted in 2 threads back to back with the exact same post. I figured I'd just point out that doing it in other peoples threads is a bit uncalled for and you should create your OWN thread about it if you care so much.
You have no idea of my view or opinion on the subject nor will you ever. I suggest starting your own thread about it lest the mods come in here themselves and tell you to stay on topic.
And now back on topic:
I prefer to use photobucket to host my images rolin. I would advise against using ones like Imageshack. Photobucket is the best free one your going to find IMO.

Both threads were explicity on topic and someone elses blithe ignorance of internet netiquette.

I post in intrerest and of interest

I disagree OldSchool. Imageshack.us is the simplest to use I've found, it can resize your images, does not require registration, is pretty fast and so far I've had no images going missing or other issues. I havn't used photobucket in atleast well over a year, but I don't remember it as better.

PM sent Hotspur.
The reason I dislike Imageshack is because everytime someone links an image to IS it brings you to another page in which you have to click the image again to bring up the full size image. And for some strange reason unknown to me it seems to take a long time to load up IS sites even with my 8Mbit cable connection.
I guess its all about personal tastes.

I use Image Cave for one because it it quite easy without jumping through any hoops. Both sizing and compression are available, as well as orientation of the image. it also lets any upload an image from the internet via an image url. as space is limited (bandwidth cost) I also use other independant and free sites without the spam attached.
Cheers
Hotspur; Picasa and blogs are another way to go but a little more complicated for some

Hmm, I guess when you do it right it works out. Maybe I'm just used to people posting the actual link and having to follow that crap instead of them posting the actual image.
Those images look nice Marc.
