Great photo do you know that year this painting is from? Nice scabbard.

I'd guess at the year of the painting to be circa 16th Century, just judging the plate armor the kneeling warrior's wearing; from what I have noticed, 'period' illustrations tend to follow the fashion of the times- which is why you see statues of King Arthur in full plate harness even though the story was originally written during a time where mail hauberks ruled the day.
I like the baldric with that scabbard too.
