I dunno kilt; I'm still smarting from the Gawaine and the Green Knight travesty he (Connery) was part of. I guess it wouldn't have been so bad had it been marketed as a comedy.

Ebon: well, yes, but he rocked the house in Darby O'Gill and the Little People, so I am willing to expect the worst, hope for the best, and wait and see.

I am still pissed about Sean Connery turning down the role of Gandalf in Lord of the Rings because 'he did not want to go to New Zealand for two years'. I think it was hilarious that after he saw the movies, he admittedly said that it was a mistake not to do them....
Don't cha feel like a chump now, Monypenny?
Back on Crowe. He would pwn Sean Connery and Gandalf and Sauron...
Rock on... ;D

On the extended edition of the Fellowship of the Ring, you'll find that the role of Aragorn was initially offered to Russell Crowe, but he turned it down because he was already committed to Gladiator. This was before Stuart Townsend cast, fired, resulting in Viggo.
I liked how Viggo portrayed Aragorn, but Maximus would have pwn'd him too; doing a better job because he has a stronger screen presence.
I am really looking forward to this flick. Moreso than I am the Hellboy-version of the Hobbit in a couple years.

I believe he's referring to the fact that Guillermo del Toro is directing "The Hobbit" (possibly in two parts), set for release in 2012.... I really don't think he's a very good director at all. Shame.

The role of Maximus was tailored fit for Crowe. You can actually feel real his emotions during the movie. The part that gutted me was when Maximus spares the downed gladiator openly defying Commodus signal to slay him, prompting Commodus to storm into the arena to insult and challenge Maximus. When Commodus gloated saying that "your son cried like a girl when he was put in the cross and your wife moaned like a whore when they ravaged her, again and again" the expression of Maximus face was as real as any person would facially express the emotions running thru him at the time, only to add a coup the grace while stoically replying: "the time for honoring yourself will soon come to an end, Caesar".......I truly felt that, I tried to picture myself in a such situation that a hated enemy gloated on me saying that my ex wife and my sons had been gruesomely slaughtered.....

Shouldn't peter Jackson be doing it with the orriginal actors? Well, according to this news article, it's a Del Toro/Jackson combination: Jackson produces, Del Toro directs-- www.comingsoon.net/news/hobbitnews.php?id=54595"Jackson and del Toro on The Hobbit Source: Empire April 17, 2009 Empire talked to director Guillermo del Toro and executive producer Peter Jackson about The Hobbit and its sequel. The second film will not serve as a bridge the the 60-year gap between "The Hobbit" and the start of "Fellowship of the Ring," as was previously believed. We quote: We've decided to have 'The Hobbit' span the two movies, including the White Council and the comings and goings of Gandalf to Dol Guldur," says Del Toro." . . . . . . as for the actors? Per Wikipedia, it looks like Del Toro wants as many of the original cast back as possible: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hobbit_films"Ian McKellen and Andy Serkis (who played Gandalf and Gollum, respectively), have met Del Toro,[16] and ideally, he wants every actor (including Ian Holm, who played Bilbo in Rings) to reprise their roles,[29] although he acknowledged some may be unable to because of health problems; he would also consider having Holm narrate the films.[27] All 13 Dwarves and Beorn will appear,[14] while Thorin's father Thráin II will also feature.[22] Doug Jones—who portrayed various creatures in Hellboy, its sequel and Pan's Labyrinth – was interested in playing Thranduil, King of Mirkwood and Legolas' father, but del Toro said he wanted Jones for a different role.[31] Similarly, Hellboy star Ron Perlman is a person whom del Toro has "something in mind for".[14]" . . . So, this is promising. --Edward
