Just wondering, how do you clamp stuff like bamboo and softer wood to a cutting stand. Thanks!

This site has info on how to make your own cutting stand www.tameshigiri.com/make_a_stand.htmlI have seen places sell something that looks like a Christmas Tree stand for bamboo targets. Sorry, I can't find the link now.

You can head to the Plumbing supply section of your nearest hardware store and look for a square to cylindrical pipe joint, you can usually get one that will fit on top of your 4x4 I have no idea what they are called but that's what I have used before, it's quick and cheap but you do need to mess around with it to get things that aren't the right fit to be solid in there, otherwise you could attach a rod or dowel of some description to the side of your stand and then use those tension clips, (alligator clips? or is that just the electrical ones?) to attach dowels or bamboo or what have you, wouldn't be the best solution but i imagine it could work, /shrug, otherwise I have to second Duct tape, what can't you do with Duct tape?

I was thinking more in the line of attaching pipe clamps to the side of the 4X4 post.

I'm not sure those would work.

I'll try to describe my cutting stand. I use 4X4 fence post. I cut off about 8 inches and sunk it in the ground till it was flush. I drilled a hole in it. I have several heights of fence posts depending on how high I want a target. Each piece has a hole drilled in one end with a dowl in it. I just pick the height I want and I slide the dowl into the sunken piece. This let me do a couple things. 1. I can mow the lawn over the sunken piece. 2. Adjust for varrying heights. 3. If I whack the stand and split a piece, I am not making a another whole stand. Just cuting a piece of fence post to height, drilling a hole in it and sticking a dowl in it and I'm back in business. 4. Rather then moving a large stand with spread out feet all the time, the most I move is a single piece of wood so its a lot lighter.
