I love Western swords, but I find myself reaching for my Musashi Zetsurin more often than not. Discovering this tendency in myself, I began to ponder what my ideal sword would be.
Blade length between 27 and 30 inches. Blade width 1 1/2 inches at guard with distal taper. Blade straight, double-edged, tapering almost full length to a good point. Blade flattened diamond, fuller okay but not necessary. Handle 12 inches. Pommel non-existant or part of handle (same diameter). Short, simple cross guard. Maybe extending 1 inch beyond blade. POB 2 or 3 inches forward of guard. Total weight not more than 2 3/4 pounds.
Anything out there like this, or am I dreaming? Anything close that I can modify?

The blade you describe would fit with a Oakrshott type XV/XVIII or possibly a XVI, though im not sure if you would find one with a pommel they way you describe it

KingRat,
So something like Windlass' Great Ouse River Sword, except for the blade length?
I've had my eye on this piece for a while. I love the way this looks. Don't want another long sword, though.
flashingsteel, Thanks for the tip. Gus' stuff is more than I want to pay.

Luka: that two hander is lighter than most katana, infact I think it is the single lightest full length sword I have seen. It isn't just light in it's weight it is extremely light in the sense of balance as well. That sword would move extremely well, I am assuming that it is a diamond cross section so adds strength to the blade and will cut and thrust like a champion, more thrusting ability than cutting ability though. Good looking sword, that is for sure.

badger blades will make a sword to request, but it will be expensive and may take some time as they fill usual orders first. They ask for a large down payment for custom work, but youll get back whatever they dont use in the making. Worth looking in to.

Thanks for the great suggestions, everyone.
I'm looking (drooling?) at the Tinker Pearce offerings. I really like the Sharpened Bastage's blade and the Sharpened Longsword's grip/pommel. I wonder if Hanwei would sell an extra pommel or two....
