The current law in the UK is that the importation and sale of any curved blade over 50cm long is illegal. Except for those with a license or if the sword is made in traditional way.
As I understand it this was intended to prevent the importation and sale of cheap katana’s
However my question is how does this affect the importation of other non Japanese swords.
I want to buy a European falchion, and would have to have it imported. Would this be affected by the ban??

i don't remember for sure but i think it did cover other curved weapons but they seem to amend it every two weeks. and i think when they say traditional way so it doesn't have to be a billet of tamahagane and a licensed smith in japan... like i think hanwei stuff is now permitted but don't quote me on that. but i would imagine a falchion would be fine

the ban applies to all long curved blades, the so called 'samurai sword' ban is just its public name. and i think when they say traditional way so it doesn't have to be a billet of tamahagane and a licensed smith in japan... thank god for that!!

don't quote me on that! but i'm pretty sure stuff like hanwei dynasty forge etc... are now included in the "tradtional construction" cuz i remember talking with some other people about how the ebay cheapies can get pushed through under that pretense so it really only knocks out the very bottom rung of the SLO market

the way i am currently lead to interprit the 'traditional construction' thing is;
made of steel
lmsao
thats it
only 'made of steel'
lol
that is the only thing i can prove to be a constant.
i would include 'dismountable tsuka' but you can get a 5th-gen pk over here stock i would include 'differentially hardened' but you can get a tenchi over here stock
which leaves me with one lone thing....
made of steel
and then the question arrises....
'but wall hangers are made of steel.....'
