I have been looking at Valiant Armoury's sword of nobility in a catalog for a while but I have no idea on how functional it is. Would this sword classify as "battle ready?" The price was $162.50 and I thought that sounded like a good price but I do not want to buy it if it is going to fall apart or the tang break or anything like that. I really like the sword but I would like to hear an opinion from someone who owns one, has had an experience with one , or just knows how well it holds up when being used.

No experince with that specific sword... but my experince with Valiant Armoury PRE Sonny Suttles has not been impressive. That is to say... anything not from the Practical or signature lines... I have not been impressed with at all. All the new stuff coming out of Valaint Armoury since Sonny Suttles has taken over blows me away... ;D

well that's one of their old models made before Sonny Suttles took over which, to me says "stay away" I have yet to hear a good review of their old stuff, while I have yet to hear a bad (or even a luke-warm) review of their new stuff I know it's a little more but if you want a longsword I'd go for the Valiant Armory AT304S Practical Longsword for $240 from the SBG store. these Valiant AT-practicals simply cannot be beat in our price range. I also have issue with the specs I see on the "sword of nobility" especially the 3 pounds 11 ounce weight. OUCH that's heavier than I like by about 12 ounces. in the end it is up to you, but I doubt I would be happy with this sword. but then I'm less concerned with looks and more with performance. I do think the VA Practical ATrims are pretty good looking though.
good luck finding the sword that is right for you, I hope I've helped.
EDIT: Sarnathed by Shadowhowler Sean! he snuck one in while I was looking up the sword in question.
anyway I agree with shadowhowler 100%

First sword I ever owned was a Valiant Armory War Sword. Big handle componets, brought the POB down to 1" or less, but was extremely heavy. Absolutely had to be used in two hands, both due to the weight and the wide grip that was supplied, that would foul edge alignment something fierce if you were the least bit off, or if your hands were sweaty.
Long story short, it's tang broke in two pieces on a cut, leaving me with the 1/2 pound pommel in my hand, and the sword blade, handle and guard quivering between my friend's legs some five paces away.
That being said, I've handled two VA Atrims and a Castile. Until I started hanging around here, I didn't believe they were made by the same company.
I can honestly say that I don't recommend any of their old swords. Save up the extra 50 odd dollars and buy one of the Atrims from SBG when they come in stock.

Gee...that sounds like an awfully close call. I bet the blade wasn't the only thing that was quivering (The pun, it could not be resisted, sorry).

Waaaaay too close of a call. What was so bad was it wasn't a tough target...a 2 liter, of all things. The grip shifted a bit in my hand on the cut and rather than biting a bit and bouncing off the wide grip made the blade twist to smack the bottle with the flat, which was apparently more than the tang could handle. That compounded with the torque of my second hand on the pommel was just too much.
There is hope, though. As I said, the new stuff is incredible, particuarly for the price range. I'm in discussions to own one of the custom-tuned atrims from them and will probably look into buying their practical longsword in the not too distant future.

Custom-tuned ftw! I looked up this particular sword over the weekend; as others have said- STAY AWAY.
You might have to ask Bill (tsafa) but I think he had a pre-Sonny Suttles VA sword snap at the tang during one of his tire torture tests. Yup, it was the VA War Sword, here's an excerpt:
{The Valiant Armory War Sword is a failure. The tang broke after 20 blows. The most disappointing thing here is that this 3.8 lb blade heavy sword was designed for the sole purpose of bashing armor and shocking the person underneath it. I expected that this would be the last sword in my armory to break. I believe the reason for the break is because the tang was way too thin for a heavy blade like this. The presence of rust inside the handle on the tang was not a good thing either. This just goes to prove that you do not know what you have until you put it to the test on the tire-pell. To see details click here
I have received word from Valiant Armory through by-the-sword.com that do not warrant swords for this kind of use. I can respect that but I have no use of display swords and I will not be buying any other swords from Valiant Armory.}
Keep in mind, that response is from the OLD VA, not the new one which is putting out the MUCH better swords designed by Gus Trim and Christian Fletcher. So, save up 50 or so extra bucks and go for the practicals...or...save up an additional $100 and get one of the Signature line swords. I believe the only difference between the Signature and Practical lines (besides nomenclature) is in aesthetics; furniture, grip and scabbard leather overlays/wraps and colors.

The new War sword will come out in early 2010 along with 5 other redesigns of the standard line. These will be made on Gus Trim designed blades

Line me up for the first war sword. With a gus trim blade, some more attractive furniture (including a smaller handle) and a bit of the panache I've come to expect from your company in recent years I'm seriously looking foward to it.
