I have two swords that were given to me by a (nasty) ex-girlfriend. I want to sell them but have no idea what they might be worth or how to price them.
Any suggestions?

You could begin by giving us pictures and information about them.... then we could help, or point to those who can....

I just joined the site. I am happy to post pix if you can tell me where to post them. Since I am not ready to sell them (until I can put a price on them), I didn't think it was appropriate to put them in the classified section.

Why not just post them here? Do you know how to host them with photobucket and then insert them with the [/img] formula? Or just cut the link for forums from under your thumbnail in photobucket and paste it here.

Good lord, the photo posting worked!! Here are the details I know:
Sword with carved handle: measure 46" long "440 stainless" is etched on one side of the blade "china" is etched on the other side of the blade blade has been used (no marks or scratches)
Sword with wrapped handle: measures 45" long has no markings on the blade blade has been used (no marks or scratches)
I can take better pix if there is anything that should be shown in more detail. Thanks in advance for the help.

The all black one seems to be a Paul Chen (Hanwei) Practical Plus MSRP around 400, and for the other one a basic Chinese replica sword selling for around $40-$100 I would say.

yup while those would be the MSRP seeing how they are used and the fact that many sites sell them for less. I think you could get maybe $200 for the practical plus.

Does the Hanwei Practical Plus have that shiny, slick leather? I thought it used a duller, more 'grip friendly' kind of suede?

$200 for the Hanwei PPK IF it hasn't been abused. It'd be good to see the rest of the blade - and the edge. The other one - I wouldn't buy it but that doesn't mean that there isn't someone out there that would.

I just realized my description said the blades "have been used". That was an error. The blades HAVE NOT been used or sharpened. They are pristine. Does that make much difference in what they might be worth?

Does that make much difference in what they might be worth? Well.... if the one people are saying is a Hanwei PPK is not sharp, then it is NOT a PPK. Those are Razor sharp. I still think the leather is to shinny to be a PPK, I thought they had a grippy kind of suede on them. I shall investigate.

I know there is at least one formite who is looking for a Hanwei PPK at a good deal so, these two may be a match made in haven. (Or, SBG at any rate.)

The blade still have the factory finish and sharpness. It is sharp but I have not done anything to it that would sharpen the blade (stone, sand paper, ect).

Well.... if the one people are saying is a Hanwei PPK is not sharp, then it is NOT a PPK. Those are Razor sharp. Im not tryin to be a grammar nazi or anything but that sentence-like formation gave me a headache.....are you missing some letters or words in there shadow? Secondly, not all PPK's are razor sharp....in fact I have never seen one that was. So, just because it isnt shave paper sharp doesnt mean it isn't a PPK. For what its worth, it looks like a PPK to me just based on the hamon and kissaki. As for the china piece, perhaps craigslist would be a good place for it since it should only be used as a decoration in someones home. Just my .02
