So, I'm definitely interested in acquiring the Cold Steel Grosse Messer, and I recently found that Kult of Athena is currently selling one for 169.95$, which is the cheapest I've seen one pretty much anywhere. But, I've also read issues about the cheaper ones being "rejects," "lemons," and other things like that. Should I have to be concerned about buying it and having it snap at the tang cutting water bottles (I've heard stories of this happening)? Or do you imagine that KoA would not sell defective models just to make a quick buck?

Since KoA doesn't actually make swords, I don't think they go into it to make a quick buck- having said that, they wouldn't be the people to ask regarding the quality of the piece. Check the review index here: /index.cgi?board=swordreviews&action=display&thread=8870
James categorized each review by manufacturer; check out the Cold Steel GM done by suvorov- they may have addressed the lemons issue. Barring that, ask around as you're doing...sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Some of the issues with earlier models have been ironed out, but its still quite a heavy representation of a weapon thats supposed to be lighter and used in a fashion similar to longsword. But hey if your only in it for the cutting I've heard its a beast at that

When I bought my CS Grosse Messer, I ended up ordering from KOA because they had the lowest price......same as you listed. After I ordered delivery was taking longer than I expected because they were listed as in stock. I emailed KOA and immediately received a response........the swords were in stock but when they inspected mine for delivery they found it had a loose guard and that their entire shipment was the same. They wouldn't send the defective pieces out and were waiting for a new shipment. Took a few more weeks but I got a top grade piece. Their inventory is generally inspected before shipping and their defective stuff if offered for sale is on the scratch and dent list for a lower price. Good luck.

How about pics and/or a link to the sword on KoA?

Awesome! Great to know that KoA is pretty good about checking products before they ship them.

They are pretty good about QC and customer relations in my experience but a fellow forumite did have an unhappy experience with them. Shadowhowler received a CS Shamshir from them and found it had a slight twist to the blade. When he reported it to KOA they responded that the twist was normal for that sword and all of them were like that.......they ended up exchanging that sword for a different brand and type but that was an unsatisfactory reply for him about the Shamshir because that was the sword he wanted.....left a bitter taste in his mouth.......I have a CS Shamshir and it is fine. This is the only incident of this like that I have heard about KOA though!
