I tried to bid on some Artsfeng stuff on Ebay today, but I was actually not allowed to bid! It seems Ebay UK has banned absolutely all weapons, and that means that everyone registered with Ebay UK in some way can't buy any sword, knife or even sword parts from any Ebay around the world... I get a message telling me that because of the new policy I am prevented from circumventing the weapons ban. I registered there once to buy a tanto from UK after they demanded special registration, and I'm now blocked from even buying a sword from China. Thats sick! Seems I have to start a new account unless they solve this stupidity fast. Sorry for you UK'ers in here.

Wow, that's messed up! And I thought Canada had some crazy laws. I don't think they could pull that off here, being that we are a large nation of hunters and outdoorsmen. The uproar over the gun registry was quite something ( Now it is being dropped, due to it becoming a cluster-f$#k and the projected 3 million cost went to about 3 BILLION !!) Our PM declared it was making no dent in crime ( Duh ! Like the criminals are going to register THEIR guns!!). Also, In Canada, Sikhs won the right to wear their daggers just about anywhere based on religious freedom, even in school !! www2.canada.com/national/nationalpost/news/cnspolitics/story.html?id=f27ab40d-ff97-43d8-ab5c-75a1ac7962ce&p=1A campaign to ban blades here wouldn't go over too well.

Politicians with common sense are very rare in this day and age. Banning gun suppose to be quick solution to crime problem they said ,2 weeks ago 4 of our brave policemen in Oakland were slained by criminal armed with AK47 rifle and the AK was banned in California since 1989 ,I guess someone forgot to tell that guy to turn in his AK . Ichiban, I think you can cancel your E-bay account and register with new account. By the way when did you UK edge weapon ban went into effect ?

I bought a sword yesterday, so it must have been during the night. I'll just open an account with Ebay.com, and I'll hope that fixes the problem. There are some weapons banned in Norway too, but live swords, axes and other hand weapons got legal again in -99 after have been banned for 10 years. It's pure idiocy that because I first registered at Ebay UK I have to follow english law.
If there's anyone from UK here, can you find a sword from a chinese seller and try to place a bid? There should be a warning before you push the "Commit to buy" button.
When I try to place a bid on a tsuba I get this message:
"To prevent the circumvention of the eBay.co.uk and eBay.ie Weapon and Knives policy, it is not possible for you to bid on, or buy this item.
Thank you for your understanding.
eBay Trust & Safety"
And this is the weapons policy:
Weapons
Certain weapons are not permitted on eBay. Weapons not permitted include (but may not be limited to):
crossbows;
nunchaku, coshes, truncheons, batons or knuckledusters;
any leaded canes, staffs, crutches or sticks;
zip guns, hand grenades or metal replica hand grenades;
throwing stars, shurikens, billys, sandclubs, sandbags, or slungshots (also known as saps or blackjacks);
handclaws, footclaws, hollow kubutans or blowpipes;
"kusari gama", "kyoketsu shoge", "manrikigusari" or "kusari" (lengths of rope, cord, wire or chain fastened at one end to either a sickle, hooked knife, hard weight or hand grip);
swords are prohibited on eBay.co.uk and eBay.ie;
any other offensive weapon as defined by Section 141 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (UK) or the Firearms and Defensive Weapons Act 1980 (Ireland) as these statutes may be amended from time to time.
Knives
eBay prohibits members from listing knives on eBay.co.uk and eBay.ie with one exception:
Cutlery: this includes sets of kitchen cutlery (knives, forks, spoons) that contain knives used for eating, but does not include sharp kitchen knives such as those found in knife blocks, such as paring knives.
That pretty much rules out everything interesting...

Oh no!!! But... without your support Ichiban, all those China-based Ebay Katana sellers will go out of buissness! You've been keeping that whole industry afloat for awhile no! The horror! The humanity!!! On a serious note, this kinda sucks that your in Norway and somehow being subjected to UK law. WTF?

Whoa...I am truly sorry to hear it; what are they trying to accomplish? I never understood the 'punish the many for the sins of the few' mentality, if anything, it'll just drive the market underground or worse, dry up.
Does Norway have the same laws or is this eBay going paranoid?

Doubtless it is a policy of ebay UK. And, as annoying as it is, I must stand up for ebay here. If the law is as onerous as I have read, they are simply attempting to keep their noses out of trouble. I think we're still feeling repercussions of the Great War.

hey ichiban this ebay uk blockage thing has been around for a few weeks now.
when it first happened to me i was like WTF and i missed something that i REALLY wanted and it went for such a low bid i was gutted.
anyways, i hate to be beat, (and i have an iai licence so i am well within my rights to buy a bloody saya), so i played around for a bit, and...
ive found a solution, sign out, sign into the ebay dot com site, and find your item by shopping around the world, make sure it still says dot com in the address bar when your going to bid, and you will be able to place the bid.
let me know if this works out for ya mate.

Nope, I still get the stupid message. I contacted Ebay earlier today, and hope they can sort it out.
I did a special registration to buy a tanto from UK, that may be the cause I'm blocked. Anyway, I think it's very strange I can't buy from .com when I live in another coutry. Doesn't make sense. I can't register another account in my name either.
Stupid, stupid Ebay!

Hi fellow sword enthusiasts. Yes, we have had it rather difficult in the Uk regardings weaponary. First it was the outright banning of Samurai swords and Katanas. Now Ebay has imposed a total ban on on swords/knives etc. I wonder what's next? The truth is. The government n the UK are getting concerned about the rise in attacks f civillians using these weapons and statistics has proved that this is the current trend. Whilst the government has imposed their ruling on Ebay.co.uk. We sword collectors will now have to suffer and our enthusiasm for sword collecting may suffer as a result. Bad times for us in the UK I guess. We fear it may be Air Weapons next.

What is it with you guys?!? sword crime ammounts to like under 1% of the knife crime here, screwdrivers are a more popular weapon than katana. it makes it hard for us genuine enthusiasts... if we could vote on it, id vote to ban criminals, not swords....

Is this just Ebay.co.uk adapting to UK's increasing ridiculousness, or something encompassing all of UK's weapon dealers? Does this mean I can't order from rgwhandforgedkatanas.co.uk to Norway anymore?

Nah, not about to order a sword for a while, happy waiting for my Musha now, but sometime in the future rgw seems a good candidate. Thanks for the offer though.
