I have the option to obtain a brand new Windlass ULFHBERT from a vendor here in Australia, I am of course very torn (as money is getting short) to commit myself to this because its probably been sitting wherever for a long time since it was discontinued a while ago (rusting isnt an issue but a permernant set from laying on its side might be). I know from primarilly Mikes review and cutting vids its a killer blade, its gonna cost me $370.00AUS which is about $256.00US at the moment. I'm looking for opinions on if any of you (and including any you other ULFHBERT owners) think this is a good buy??? The spirits willing but the bank accounts weak

My heartfelt and sincere hope is that you get the sword of your dreams while you can. The only real alternative would be to scare up one from the secondary market by posting a "Sword Wanted" classified.
More pragmatically, I harvest images of swords that truly interest me and that I may never own.
My own wants simply add to debt at this point and any playing that market must be concerned of possible return. I have never bought a sword on credit that I saw no possibility of brealking even with. There is very little hope any reproduction sword would offer that return.
So, in the end, if absolutely needing to possess an item like that, then striking while the iron is hot has been the only way to go.
Cheers
Hotspur; I have been a good boy so far this year but I am still paying for it

Does that 256 include shipping? I like the Ulfberht, and I miss mine, but I would not pay that much for it. At that price, there are other swords that are a lot better. I do see one pop up from time to time in the second hand market. I sold mine for 150 recently... with shipping it would have gotten to you for 200. Someone here on SBG was selling one a couple months back... and someone else just sold one a day or two ago... all for around 150 - 160 and shipping from USA to OZ for that sword would be about 50... so they can be had for less. If you MUST have it, then it's worth whatever it is worth to YOU. My opinion having owned and sold my Ulfberht? I would not pay that much for it.

thanks shadow, appreciate it, yeah its been a big one on my list of viking favourites historically accurate for the most, the etchings are quite attractive. But costs become fairly relative here in OZ, anything else could get close to the same. I'm after a good viking so it does "sing" to me very sweetly. Anyone had theirs start to loosen up with use ? just by the by

Mine was loosened a bit but after what would be called abuse. But Windlasses are unconsistent. Yours might be tight or it might be loose even before using it. Btw, I payed even more here in Croatia than you would in Australia. And I sold it, I wasn't very happy with it, but I was maybe expecting more than you should from a Windlass.

He he nah I get it, yeah wouldnt envy getting stuff posted to Croatia, yeah well I had a good think and for me desirable as it is paying that amount is effectively paying for a four door sedan when your just getting a small city car, hey good car just not worth it...... So might turn my viking sword desires elsewhere, anyone got a good reccomendation for a viking blade under 250.00US?
