Greetings all. Firstly please allow me to Introduce myself, I am a brand spanking new memeber here, as you can see this is my first post. I am a former Western Australian, now residing in San Jose in Sunny California. I'm a Former Seitei Iaido Student, having competed in the australian Nationals a couple of years in a row, (Great opportunity to train under japanese Sensei for any Australians Interested.) so needless to say I have a complete and total love for all things Budo. Including of course the venerable Japanese sword. which brings me to my next point. and the subject of this thread. In the pursuit to further my technique I have recently set out to get myself some Tatami Omote to practice some Tameshigiri, (this being the first time i would have done any cutting outside of the Dojo.) and of course I came across Mugen Dachi. How sad i was to find that i had almost completely missed the boat with the recent news of their website business coming to a close. So out of shear desperation I sent an Email to Dave at Mugen Dachi seeing if (due to my location) I could pick up some mats at their Location. Well friends, it would seem serendipity has smiled upon me, I received an email this morning from Dave letting me know that pickup would certainly be available, due to a cancelled large volume order. so the last of Mugen dachi's in stock mats are available for pickup with volume discounts of six boxes or more! So I just wanted to put it out there that there is a bunch of High quality Mugen Dachi mats available for all of you in or around Northern California (I don't know how many of you that would be but still.) So if you want to schedule a pick up for some Mats, mugendachi@tameshigiri.com is where you should direct your Enquiries, and I know I am new and fresh here in the Forums, I have only lurked here since about January, But if there are any Forumites living in San Jose that are Interested, PM me with some Info and I would be happy to pick up some mats for any of you when I head up to get mine. In the meantime Have yourselves a good one and I hope to be posting again soon! -Reisz

Important News -
Due to the current economy Mugen Dachi will no longer be able to sell tatami omote through our website. We feel that we can best serve the Martial Arts community by providing our high quality tatami directly to regional vendors.
All Gift Certificates and Prize Awards will of course be honored when they are redeemed.
We're sorry, but as of March 7th we are completely out of tatami
We will provide our vendors with the same high quality tatami we have always sold in the United States and Europe. Please visit these companies for your future purchases of Mugen Dachi Tatami Omote.
In the United States: Nihonzashi in Florida
We are also looking for a vendor for the West Coast and Mid-West. In Europe: Vass & Slipad
We would like to say a sincere Thank You to all of the loyal customers who have supported Mugen Dachi over the last ten years and made our Tatami Omote the preferred target material in the United States and in Europe. It has been a privilege for us to serve the Martial Arts community and we hope that we will be able to continue to do so for many years to come.

Awww man... I'm from Monterey Ca... and have worked in and around San Jose before... the whole NorCal Area from San Luis Obispo to Eureka is home to me... and I MISS it with all my heart. If I were home now, I would look into this... bad I have been, by a cruel twist of fate, banished to Georgia. Welcome to SBG my man, enjoy your new life in my old home!

Thanks for the welcome wishes Shadowhowler! I look forward to it. So far it's a great place to live, I love visiting Monterey, I can imagine what it would have been like to leave.
Thanks very much for your Input Hotspur, allow me to place some of the Info Dave e-mailed to me here.
Hi Rhys,
Thank you for your interest in our tatami omote. We have definitely built up an excellent reputation over the last 10 years for having some of best tatami available in the US.
Your timing is excellent, or you are extremely lucky... or both, LOL. We actually had sold the last of our tatami in early March and we do not plan on having more available locally since we will only be selling to vendors. However... our final sale was a large order that the customer was going to come and pick up. Then they hemmed and hawed for three weeks arranging the pickup and finally said they wanted a better price or the deal was off. That purchase was cancelled yesterday morning, and here you are one day later asking about mats. So your timing is exquisite, one or two weeks on either side of today and the answer would have been "No".
Yes you are welcome to come up to pick up the tatami. Please let me know how many boxes of 20 mats you would like. Since we will not be carrying any tatami in the future you should stock up on whatever you can, perhaps with friends, the shipping from Florida is a killer. There is a discount at 6 boxes if you would like to save a bit more money. If you have any questions please let me know.
Best Regards, Dave Wilson --- The Mugen Dachi Company New Tatami for Tameshigiri
This is the main reason I decided to post here, I thought if anyone was in the area this would be a good opportunity to get the last of Mugen Dachi's Tatami without having to pay for Shipping, Dave seems liek a great guy to do business with.
Thanks again for your input Hotspur, I probably should have posted teh e-mail with the first post.

If I were still in the area... (which I wish I were) I would jump on this. The shipping sometimes ammounts to almost HALF the cost for mats... so being able to stock up without shipping costs is an AWESOME deal! Yet another reason to wish I were home...

Sure thing Bloodwraith, It's one Hell of an event, I couldn't believe my luck when i found out about it. It's an unbelievably good opportunity for anyone involved in Iaido to train under some very high ranking Japanese Sensei, a great cultural event too, you really get an Insight into the Japanese training method. It's a week long event, you pay for registration and accomodation (usually at a reduced rate if you book with everyone else.) and there are festivities galore when you aren't training, you train all day for the first 5 or 6 days and then the last day is usually full on gradings, demonstrations and competition, you get everything from high level seitei Jodo kata demo's right through to traditional Koryu. There have been examples of modern Nihonto available at the seminars, and there has been koshirae-shi there as well, they will inspect and tighten up, re-wrap and sell fittings for Iaito, as well as install new tsuba and such for those that don't like to dismantle their own swords. The whole thing was pretty much a mecca for any JSA enthusiasts that are registered with the various renmei, and Iaido / Kendo associations in the country. I always came from WA I lived in Bunbury which is about 200km south of Perth, My first year was in Perth and the second was in Wollongong. This is the site for the 08 nationals iaidojodo2008.googlepages.com/homeand the webpage of my home Iaido Renmei www.wakr.asn.au/They welcome spectators as long as proper respect is observed (Not a problem for any of the members here i would be quite sure.) and it's always a great time, I wish i could have gone to more but i hope to drop back in one day perhaps while on vacation in a few years to see how it is going, I believe it is in Canberra this year, and should be coming up pretty soon, seems to accommodate the University schedules that alot of the practitioners need to work around. so Yes, in case you can't tell I was a huge fan, Haha! I hope those Links provide you with a bit of Info, there are some great photo's in there too. all around a great event, Lucky to have it in Australia, we miss out on some things in the Martial world but we have got Iaido covered, Haha. Oh yeah, Jodo is fairly awesome too. -Reisz
