This was a Windlass sword also, pretty expensive for a windlass but It has been discontinued and the one used I have found isnt for sale. This sword was in a MR catalog maybe 10 years ago (catalog #65) and went for $476.00,that's pretty expensive for a windlass sword. It is 512 layer Damascus type X viking style sword/ blade with 24 karat gold plated cross guard, pommel and rings, the hilt was camel bone. overall it was 36.125 blade was 30.5 2in wide and 3 lbs. I posted I was looking for one back in Oct in the looking for part of the classifieds but still no go.I believe windlass will make them but only for an order or 50 or more.

Windlass has offered reissues in the past but it becomes a matter of demand and supply. the Dutch Cutlass was redone a couple of years ago, even with a somewhat similar sword hitting the market. forums.swordforum.com/showthread.php?t=69028Note that the Scottish cutlass continues on the market but the few Dutch cutlasses are once again gone. Like any savvy producer, it would be a matter of being sure of sales before purrsuing a large run. Cheers Hotspur; they may well have approached the market as eliminating any offerings that don't bring in backorders after intitial or repeat runs.

I consider myself very lucky in this dept. of discon. Windlass swords. Out of the four I own three have been discontinued at some point. My Type 2 Schiavona I grabbed mere days before they yanked it, my Verneuil was only a few months before it was red tagged. The one I feel most fortunate about is the Scottish backsword that I had gotten (it and the companion dagger) from Nathan Robinson - (owner of myArmoury.com) back in '04 right before the Atlanta Blade Show. It had already been discontinued for some time, but I had bugged him fro along time that if he ever decided to sell it, I wanted it. Later the dagger was also discontinued. If anything, I'd like to see this come back just so others have a shot at it. This is and will be one of my favorite's. Back then, it was a pure diamond in the rough , as it handles very nicely and is a design not often seen. cheers,

Ah, I'd have to say either the Windlass European, or the Windlass Schwert (c'mon JP get rid of it already ;D).

The Windlass European!
...The Arbedo...(but with a stiffer blade, of course...)
and, why not, the schiavona...from what I gather, it was nice for the price niche...
Thinking about it, the list could be long...many of the older models were nice...would they be re-issued with improvements...

I'll pose a secondary question within this one, in addition to blades that have been culled what is one blade you own that if it broke tommorow you would go to efforts to purchasing another??? a toughy considering the sword lovers taste for variety

My Windlass Fantasy Viking. It's actually a very nice blade, and while I enjoy more historical piece for the most part now, I am still enamored by the hilt. Plus it was by first European blade, so I've got a bit of a soft spot for it.

Problem is, only the Arming sword is still avalible.

So how spot on is the rumor , does this mean that windlass will bring back well selling or popular models now and again ?
