I am trying to get as many examples of museum Great Swords of the 11th, 12th and 13th century.
The term Great Sword is a rather loosely used one. Specifically I want to see images of the largest sword on record for this period. I thinking minimum 40 inch blades and 15 inch handles. I know there are plenty of examples in the 15th century, I'm looking for earlier ones.
Any documented period references to very large swords will be useful too.
Thanks for any help.

I don't know of any reproductions, but I think a large type XIIIa is going to be your best bet, Bill. There are plenty with blades over 35", and one (XIIIa.1 on MyArmoury) that is 39.5", though I'm unsure how long the hilt is. Tinker Pearce has sent a prototype XIIIa to Hanwei for production, but I'm not sue on the exact stats of that one, so I can't say whether it will fit your criteria. Here's the link to the MyArmoury article I mentioned: www.myarmoury.com/feature_spotxiii.htmlI am also fairly interested in this type (though not the beasts you're looking for ;D). I'll keep an eye out for you.

Look at them first .. maybe they don't look what are looking for --who knows! There are perfect. So far your pictures are my best lead. It is the right size. I just need to know what century they are from. I am hopping if I know what museum they are from I might be able to google the size specs. The picture where you are standing in front of the sword is perfect because I can see the size scale. Good link Luka.

Kidxasanova, number XX.3 on XX page is what I am looking for. 50 inch blade, at least 15 inches on the handle dating to 1320-40, so it is medieval rather then renaissance.
I could use a few more solid leads like this.

No problem, Bill. Like I said earlier I'm definitely getting more into these larger swords. I prefer blades under 40" but it's really cool going through these articles, since I normally only read the arming sword pieces.

Haha exactly. I mean, I was into big swords when I was younger, but I grew out of it. Seeing that GSoW in Tinker's video made me really interested in these larger swords again, but for a different reason than I used to.
So it really was fun for me to go poke around MyArmoury when Bill posted this topic, on top of getting to help him out.
