I'm just going to put it in Shirisaya for now, I can't afford fittings until I get a job.

Well congrats slayer. Would it be condescending to say I'm proud of you? Hope not, cause I am. You've come a long way and I hope you honor this blade with the respect it and its maker deserves.

;D What else can I say? ' ;D ' sums it up pretty nicely. Yeah, once I get it the Garrigal will have the place of honor in my collection. I'm probably going to get a scabbard made for it as well... any suggestions on who would be cheapest? I'd want it to be nice, but plain. Cheaper is better, when the extra money can go towards more Fableblades! Unlike a katana, where the mounting and the blade work together to form one entity, I think that a medieval sword's scabbard is just a kind of accessory. Something important, useful, and valuable, but useless without the sword itself. Likewise, a katana's fittings are useless without the blade, but the blade is ALSO useless without fittings. Do you see where I'm coming from? If anyone thinks (or knows) that what I'm trying to say is merely the unintelligable ramblings of a moron, please feel free to correct me. ;D (there goes that fateful ' ;D ' again... ) -Slayer P.S. Thanks for all the hearty congrat's and compliments, guys. Now you've made me feel all warm and fuzzy!

Not really Slayer....
Theres not that much difference...
Euro ---------------- Katana
Blade ----------------- Blade Scabbard ----------------- Saya Guard ----------------- tsuba Pommel ----------------- Kashira handle/hilt ----------------- tsuka
So, you see... both are constructions of their parts and the blades or fittings of either are useless if taken piecemeal....
Except of course that Japanese kodogu can be art ;D

Oh, well.... can't argue with that logic! ;D Post edited, but nothing has been deleted... just put a line through some stuff. Regardless, who would you recommend for a scabbard? Thanks, Marc! -Slayer

Dand, Brian at DBK, and Maz make scabbards (we probably have more that I'm unaware of). All of their work is great. Outside of SBG, there's always Fletcher, but I personally would rather my money stay within the community.
What kind of scabbard were you looking at having done? I know you said plain, but honestly I'd rather get something wicked awesome to accompany a custom blade I'd gotten.

and that should get me enough to buy the FTW in addition to paying shipping! You may be out of luck on that... I saw it marked as 'sold' yesterday on Fableblades.

Of course I'd RATHER get something awesome! It's just that, well, my miniscule income disagrees with me. ;D However, I will get something really nice for any other Fableblades I buy in the future. I view this as a sort of introduction into Fableblades. Later, when I get one of my favorites like the 'Farewell the Darkness' or the 'Edward of Euphrania', I'll get a scabbard made worthy of the marvolous blade it will hold. For the time being, I'll go with cheap. ;D I'll have to hurry and get the Farewell the Darkness, though. It's one of Bren's most mentioned swords, and it matches my username so well... Lol just think of it... "Slayer of Darkness, banishing his dark foes to the demonic realm of death with the bane of Darkness itself, the legendary blade of Fables; Farewell the Darkness!" In other words, "Bye-bye, Darkness!" ;D -Slayer EDIT: Shadowhowler- Trust me. I can still get it from Brenno. ;D ;D

It's one of my favorites of his as well, Slayer. If I ever get a piece by him, it will probably be a leaf blade hand and a half.
I feel you on the cheap scabbard. If you're just looking for something to hold it, and not worried about historical accuracy or being super cool, see if one of the guys on here can make you a plain leather scabbard. It would be the least expensive option.
Though be warned that there's a chance our resident scabbard-makers wont accept that kind of commission, as they are artists and such a plain piece might reflect poorly on them.

Aw , no mention of summing up all the fancy 'end of the world' stuff into "bye-bye, Darkness!" ? I thought it was kinda funny... Good idea about the plain leather scabbard, though. I wonder how much a plain wood scabbard would cost? I would highly prefer that over leather, simply due to the problems leather has with causing rust. I'll PM our friendly sword 'can do anything' guys about it. ;D -Slayer

As a note, I havent had any problems with my leather scabbards (and I live in a more humid area of Florida than you). If you keep it oiled and well maintained, I don't see an issue.
There's also the route of simply making one, which would be the cheapest alternative, and would not be TOO difficult to make something to hold the sword, even if it's not the most attractive thing (I know any scabbard I made would sure be ugly heh).

Hey Congrats Slayer! Something to remember, you can rename any sword you own and call it whatever you want But that one of Brenno's (Farewell the Darkness) IS very wicked looking.

Aaaahhhhh, our boy is growing up! Congrat's Slayer, I'm so proud of you. Why, it seems like it was just a few short months ago that you were snipe hunting with us on the interwebs and look at you now! Next time we go hunting you can bring your Elvin sword and we'll bag some orcs.......maybe invite a few Rangers along!
Good Show!
