So an idea came to me in another thread...how about having a list of forumites who can sharpen swords along with the general area they are in. This is all of course voluntary...and it's not just about the forumites who own a buisness doing this. I'm sure there are some of us who would be willing to sharpen a few swords of fellow forumites who happen to live near use at nominal costs. Just a list of people who can be contacted about getting a sword sharpened. And even if there is nobody close, at least you can fine somebody close enough so your shipping cost won't be through the roof. So what do you all think?

cool but the way i sharpen swords anybody can do they just dont try. trial and error is costly too i guess. what standard? blunt , "semi-sharp-want-it-sharper" euro/kat/etch? then again what about liability if somthing goes wrong on a $1000+ sword!ouch if i were to sharpen somebodys sword i dont think i'd touch anything over $500

Well sharpening a sword isn't exactly hard once you get a method that works for you. That goes for anyone...course finding that method that works for you can be rather timely and costly. And the funny thing is that what works well for one person doesn't for another hehe. As for what each individual is willing to do, well I guess we can put that in the list as well...or leave it be and it can be talked over in PM...along with liablity issues and what not. But if you have a $1000+ sword, I don't think 40 dollar for shipping is gonna bother you...this is much more aimed at the new collector who don't have the money for a 200 dollar sharpening job on their 200 dollar sword and don't have the skill yet to do it themselves. Most people by the time they get to collecting the good stuff either have the skills to take care of those swords themselves...or the money to pay somebody to do it for them . It's more of an issue when your starting out though. And it does network the new collectors to those of us more along in the hobby .

I highly reccomend learning the skill for one's self. but for those just getting started I can see providing them a little help on the way.
at this point in time I cannot offer my services as I am about to move across country. maybe later in the year I'd be able to but I think my new job is going to eat up more of my personal time than my current one. yuck! we'll see.
