Also, to amend that last post, if you hold it like the pictured version, it gives you the option of a less-than-lethal thrust with the butt end which actually works really well. I've put a small dent in my bed frame from misjudging distances doing that.

I have a verity of knives for different purposes, I’m limited on what I can carry on a day to day basis as UK law is fairly strict. This knife pretty much lives in my pocket though: It’s a French, Laguiole knife, with an oak handle and a nice carbon steel blade.

A very classy knife KingRat. The locking? mechanism appears to be similar to the Spanish "navaja" knife. I wonder if they are related as they come from countries so close?

It's generally illegal to carry knives in public around here, but you can if they're small or larger utility knives if intended for honorable purpose. Usually I carry the two small folders at the bottom of the pic. One swedish, one spanish, nice and razor sharp. I have to show my Samii knife, at the top of the pic, which I aquired while I was at service guarding the russian border during the mid-eighties. It's been through a lot of abuse, I used it for everything from cutting down small trees to slicing bread. The steel is incredibly tough, I guess this actually can chop iron. I have cut barb wire with it. Just an incredible utility knife I use when I'm hunting or in the woods. Second is a Al Mar Tanken Shugoto II tanto. This was the knife I carried on front of my webbing in the army. Very tough knife, still carry it sometimes when the context is honorable. Third and fourth is norwegian knives. I sometimes carry the Brusletto Falk (Falchion) to cut branches, make walking sticks, whittle and general knife work. A exellent knife. Bottom left is a british Sheffield steel Skean-Dhu. Very slim and razor sharp, meant to be carried concealed.

I used to have a Cold steel Voyager: www.knifeworks.com/images/products/detail/29LC.jpgVery simple, pretty cheap (30-40$), but excellent for all-around uses. I used it mostly for light carving, untill it got stolen. I tried to order another one from ebay, it got confiscated in the custom, and around here they sell those for a mindshocking 150$, for no good reason. Currently, waiting for a relative to go abroad so i can get another one.

Without going into too much detail most knife combat schools and systems teach that particular gripping style. The aim with this particular style is to use the off hand to distract an opponent whilst the knife hand strikes in a series of rapid thrusts that are designed to pinpoint the most effective kill zones on the body. This unorthodox grip is also the most useful grip for rapid feinting motions which distract before you go in for the kill. Last of all, when holding the knife correctly in an unorthodox grip you can lay the length of the spine against your arm for offensive blocking purposes.

Here we can have knife in public places, if it is folding knives. I don´t have any picture of all my knives for the moment but here are the three I use most, I think; this is japanese, the one I use mostly, Higonokami-burasu by nagamo. Very sharp. These two are swedish. I got rather traditional taste, I like the old style. The first one is made in the 1920 -30´s by Severin Molin. The other one, the cow horn knife is older, around 1890-1910. Also swedish don´t know who made it. Several have guessed at Hadar Hallström. They work excellent both as user knives. And I have a stag handle Bulldog, a German knife with the so called reversed etch on the main blade. Can´t find a picture for the moment. I dont use it often. And a couple of other old Swedish knives which I seldom use..

This is what I could find, out of moving boxes . LEFT The first knife I ever bought at 14 working at a gas station 7:00PM to midnight. Work permit, what's that? The next is a Buck knife that I traded a switch blade for in 82. I worked with this knife everyday till the lock mechanism stopped working and I had to buy a new one last year. Then there two sheath knives, one (the smaller) I found in a cave, and the other (the bigger) was my grandfathers, along with the double folding blade. To finish out the left side there is my hunting (gutting) knife and just some misc. blades. CENTER The big one is a SOG Navy Seal, I scammed this knife. An electrical supply house had a bunch of knives and I took a liking to this one. So I bugged one of the guys for a year asking when he was going to give it to me, well one Christmas he did . Then there is the Narsil letter opener my oldest son bought me for my birthday one year, he saved a long time for that one and it is very special. Last but not least is my Gerber boot knife, I wore this one just today. RIGHT These are the knives I have on me everyday, and let me tell you it sucks when I have to go through a metal detector . Top and bottom I wear on my belt, my new Buck knife and a Leatherman. Did you know if you scrape of the L at the beginning you have eatherman. Insert spaces as needed ;D The others I carry in my pocket. This is a fun thread thanks D.B. +1 to you sir. edit because I don't know what I'm doing ;D

Oh my gosh... This is so much fun looking at all of you guy's Pocket Swords and such. From all over the world too. I've enjoyed every post.
Sparky, that SOG Seal knife is either very large or your sword is very small...<grin> Got a SOG just like it and a Dell laptop like that too... Good flavors man.
k, those are most unique knives. Good looking and formed for function. Never seen that much design go around a cork screw. What exactly did they pull or maybe carry? Beautiful and very fascinating.
pika007 Plus 1 man, for having your PS's stolen twice. That was nice looking.
KingRat, that baby is long and lanky. Nice quality touches too. Those can't be your initials or they would be KR. Beautiful PS!
bryn, nice and scary PS's! Good pic's man. Did you take them yourself? I found taking a picture while holding my PS in one hand and my camera in the other...uh, shall we say challenging. Good job!
Marc, good custom job. I like your version better too. Not really a Gladious, but maybe a Hapious... Sorry, been making too many jokes latly... It's very nice looking and I would be interested in a version of it myself. Better patent it.
Let's see some more Pocket Swords!

I suppose I could get all my little knives (10" and under) together for a photo-op sometime tomorrow (too lazy tonight, getting late and all) if there's enough interest in my craptastic collection of crummy knives etc. k, I like that Japanese folder. I've been meaning to grab one, myself, but keep...forgetting. Every time I see one I'm reminded but never have the $$ to grab one...by the time I get it I've forgotten about them again. Kanetsune seems to have come up with a nice folder this year, too, which has grabbed my eye... I need to buy a new double edge fixed blade for waist carry...

crazycolerogers, can't comment on your movie yet, I've got to get to a faster connection at work and I'm on my weekend... YaHoooo! But those pics of that laguiole are beautiful. Never heard of a laguiole till today and from what I've seen of them, they are works of art... Going to have to get me one of them...

I'd never been fond of the laguiole design, but the more I see of our members', the more tempted I am to get one...
They are quite pretty, but I'm not so fond of the long, skinny handle...

Lots of really nice blades guys! Here are mine!! Left column, top to bottom: Simple dagger, unknown brand, basically a letter opener; handmade knife fashioned from a railroad spike, my most unique piece; pocket folder with a messed up tip, not sure what brand, nothing special though; A dragon themed folder I got as a gift from my dad. It's not my thing, but I appreciate it. The blade is cool Right column, top to bottom; SOG Seal Pup, the smaller version of Sparky's knife. This guy is my favorite, I carry it with me. I wear it openly in the sheath, so, I THINK it's legal. Great knife, nothing but good things to say about it. And, if I ever need it sharpened, SOG will do it for $9; A hunting knife I got from my mother. It's skinned many deer (by her, not me); Last but not least, a trio of Gil Hibben throwers. They fly great make anyone a near expert, also a nice concealable hand held size.
