Hello everyone, some of you might or might not remember me, but I was wondering if some folks could give me insight as to which sword they think I should choose: the Cold Steel Viking, Darksword, or the Generation 2 Witham Viking? I know that the Cold Steel handles much better due to its weight, but the Witham and Darksword viking swords are made by companies who have a reputation for being very tough, and the Witham at least is historical. Another question I have is: is the Darksword Viking historical?

I would go with the gen2. I don't have one but it's supposed to be very tough and looks far better than the other too. Neither of which look very historically accurate to me.
I also would not assume that the cold steel would handle the best unless someone can confirm this. The whole hilt looks quite small if i recall correctly. My guess is that it probably may weigh less but that most of it's weight is in the blade. The gen2 is tapered so it probably has a lower center of mass too. Just a guess though.
Keep in mind though, I don't own any of these swords.

Hello Miekka That is a good question, however, it is a bit tough to give a good answer. What are you looking for; historical accuracy ? durability ? cutting power ? handling ? I suggest that you take a look at the review index ( /index.cgi?board=swordreviews&action=display&thread=8870 ). All the swords in your list are reviewed there. From what I know, all these company claim to make incredibly resilient blades. Darksword's swords survived pretty hardcore testing on this site, but are considered heavier than average and not very historical by some on this website. Personnaly, I think that their viking swords are okay, on the historical side. The blades are a bit too pointy and have too much distal taper, but otherwise they are respectful of the swords of ancient times. These aren't as bad as DSA leaf-shaped spatha and dark age swords, which are very unhistorical in my opinion. Cold Steel promo clips show some very mean destructive tests too, but I take these with some salt (considering the many cuts during the clips and the fact more than one forumnite had their Cold Steel swords snap after some light cuts). About handling, Cold Steel are also known for making heavier than average swords (although I don't know if this apply to everyone single sword they've made). About Generation 2, there goes the ''indestructibility'' claim again. I don't know much about their products but theres many reviews on this site that you can check. Hope this helps. Historical side-note : overall, I agree with ncavin, the Gen 2 sword is the most historical-looking of the lot. I'd say it is followed by the DSA product. The Cold Steel viking sword doesn't look historical IMHO, too many details are off.

I personally own the CS Viking. Sebastian is right about the historical accuracy of the CS one. Not very historical, but very nice to look at. My only REAL issue with the CS viking is that the blade isn't as wide as most historical viking swords. I love the Celtic Knotting on the guard and the Pommel is quite nice to look at too. Ncavin is also right about the weight; the sword is a bit blade heavy. Its not bad though and it doesn't bother me a bit. I just wish the blade was wider to look the part better. The thing does cut like a laser though and I do like it alot. Hope that helps some

I owned a CS Viking and it started out as a hand and a half, I modified the pommel and hilt to look more historically correct, I can Email pics of it but cant seem to post pics here, I've tried so don't ask, I shortened the handle and smoothed out the notwork and wire wrapped with silver, looked and handled like a single handed Viking sword from AD1000-1100 should.......SanMarc.
I would go with the Gen 2.
