Sex is bad only if it's free seems to be what America is preaching these days. However if you buy it on DVD in full colour surround sound and then fantasise about playing out the acts that occur on the flick, well that is perfectly natural and healthy. What is it about sex and violence that fascinates your film industry so much? It seems like every movie these days that has guns or fight scenes there is a sex scene and more and more graphic (watchmen being a prime example).
I'm not attacking Americans here I am just stymied by the mentality that is behind this. I thought America was one nation under God? Where is God in all this. Whoops, sorry I said the G word.

I'm not attacking Americans here I am just stymied by the mentality that is behind this. I thought America was one nation under God? Where is God in all this. Whoops, sorry I said the G word. You hear that a lot... but actually many of the founding fathers were deists not Christians... and as Thomas Jefferson said " I care not if you have one god, or twenty, it neither picks my pocket, nor breaks my leg." In reality America is founded on seperation of church and state... despite the motto on the dollar bill.... its just a figure of speech... a way of saying, noone but God rules us.... I'm so sick of hearing how we americans glorify sex and violence... oh bullsemprini... humans do.... its gone on since the dawn of time... the Romans are some of the more well known for it.. but its every culture.... Hell in Europe they have softcore deodorant commercials, and strip tease weather forecasting... We don't glorify sex in America... the WHOLE world does that... we just have a puritan streak from the conservative, religious right that means our sex has to come flavored with guilt.....

Amen Marc, could not have said it better myself. I was in Germany a fee years back... saw some VERY interesting commercials. Heh. I have no problem with sex in the media and on films and TV... I dislike the puritanical thoughts of 'Oh no, sex is bad! Must not think/talk about sex!' ideas that we get alot here in the ol' USA. My problem is with the violence content of things... video games, basic TV and so on... to me, it seems in America violence is more acceptable then sex... and I think that is as backward as you can EVER get. As for the separation of church and state... this is, next to freedom of speech, the single most important precept of the government in America... and it's one that of late has started to blur a bit, which worries me somewhat. Ehem. So... anyone heard any good jokes lately? This baby seal walks into a club.... ;D

I am telling my self to stay away from this I freely admit I'm not the brightest bulb out there , and I'm not trying to piss anyone off but..... "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." Now this is were I keep saying, just stay out of it.... But I have never seen anything in this that says separate. Yet "separation of church and state" is all we ever hear. It just seems to me that the "separation of church and state" is just not an accurate statement. I have even heard it argued that if you have faith, you should not run for elected office. Or if you do you need to leave your faith at the door, because of "separation of church and state". I just feel this is wrong. I have always read the first amendment as the founding fathers fear of a STATE religion. Now again I'm not trying to en flame anyone, and this is not an attack on anyone. I'm just expressing my point of view. Oh well here goes......... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution

Adhering to this expression of the supreme will of the nation in behalf of the rights of conscience, I shall see with sincere satisfaction the progress of those sentiments which tend to restore to man all his natural rights, convinced he has no natural right in opposition to his social duties.
Man you guys are killing me... Nobodies caused any offense (at least i assume as i can't speak for everyone.) but i don't see any real major problem with the conversation. However, this topic is so far off the rails, and now we have more and more political & religious sentiments being brought into the mix, (which just so happens to be 2 big "no no's" here but....). Better just to shut this down before it gets any worse, but i have already locked half-a-dozen threads this past week and would really like it if i didn't have to lock another one. I don't think it made for a terrible conversation, its just not really in anyone's interest to continue it... At least not here anyway. So, Pretty Please with sugar on top, Can we get back on topic here?? We are not "Porno Buyers Guide"... lmao <made myself laugh with that one!

Interestingly, Jefferson supported this very ideal precept of a very Masonic legislature without ever having been one. Something to the effect of his later being paraphrased by others in prefering to not belong to any club that would have him.
Cheers
Hotspur; though Jefferson had laid cornerstones

LOL Hhehehehe! I laughed my ASS off when I read that, Marc. ;D So... you were a bit of a bully huh? You know who I used to kick the crap out of in school? Bullies. I just wanna stay on the stright and narrow with the 'powers that be' because I KNOW at somepoint down the road I'm going to speak my mind on something and get myself in a lot of hot water, and I wanna earn my 'plays by the rules' credit NOW while I can, so I can cash it in later to save my ass.
