Well, it'll remove steel, sure. I have a two-sided diamond stone similar to this thing and frankly, I hate it. I'd rather have a real, proper stone.
But it does okay, I guess, if you don't mind the awful finish it leaves.

I highly reccomend reading the forum threads on polishing and sharpening. I did and it led me to make my own solution that works great for me. I took 2 1"x1"x3' boards and screwed a piece of 1/2"x6"x3' poplar to them. I then taped sandpaper to one end and a leather strop to the other. Honestly I have found that the strop with some jewelers rouge will take of most needs and leaves a razor sharp edge. For those nasty dings I use a file and sandpaper followed by the strop. There is some great advice on how to use all of this material in the sharpening and polishing threads as well as some great video on what motion to use when sharpening. Hope this helps. Jim
