I know but it all hurts us as a community. Much like gun lovers and enthusiasts that are right now threatned by federal action regarding registration of firearms due to creating "gun safety", '"assault" weapons banned' and "gun restrictions", news like that will only enhance the notion that swords are "incredible weapons of destruction" and likewise must be regulated and licensed. I know this is a random incident but media tends to overact any issue, more if it follows or aids a specific agenda.

True enough, Aku. It is indeed unfortunate that the more civily challenged tend to get an inordinate amount of attention. All the more reason for those in a position to do so to demonstrate responsible behavior in all aspects of society.

I think on a long enough time line all weapons will be regulated in some way or another. It really is sad that we as collectors will suffer from what iiresponsible kids and dumb$emprini criminals take it upon themselves to do. I never have agreed with the idea of someone telling me what I can and can't do as long as I harm no other.Unfortunately that is the world we live in.

I think we should send a Romulan envoy to the Klingon Homeworld to protest these actions, thereby sparking new skirmishes in the neutral zone, reinforcing the need for an armed federation presence. In other words: "if the clerk had a katana and was properly trained in it's use no Klingon would have been able to pul this heist off! Obviously I jest - all the good serious comments have been made above ;D

I agree with you RicWilly on both accounts:
1."It is indeed unfortunate that the more civily challenged tend to get an inordinate amount of attention. All the more reason for those in a position to do so to demonstrate responsible behavior in all aspects of society."
and
2."Damn klingons"

I think criminals such as the one mentioned in that article are actually performing a community service. Showing the world how incredibly stupid one can look robbing a store with a fantasy-based implement only results in his removal from said community. That's a good thing.
I would think Trekkies will take more flack than the sword community-at-large considering the weapon used is strictly Star Trek/fantasy based; but I understand the OP's point.
