Now normally I wouldn't do this but I'm bloody stoked to get this sword ;D Just ordered it off the SBG store. Nothing like getting paid to run around shooting rifles and blowing things up to save quickly and efficiently! Because this sword is so cheap I can even afford the customs tax and such without frothing at the mouth too much. Thank you paul!

Congratulations on the new sword! I have the longsword and am very satisfied with it!
What exactly do you do to get paid for shooting rifles and blowing things up? Seems nice! Lol!

Congrats, Chris, I have the LS and the Arming. Mine have held up well and fun to use. I was just out cutting with the LS the other day.

Cheers mike. Yes I decided on the VA practical line because of their simplicity in looks and in function. The possibility of things falling off doesn't seem to be an issue here Reflingar, I'm in the New Zealand army reserves and the pay for a private in the army has almost doubled so with field allowance and whatnot I'm getting almost 1000 NZD a (7day) week. Also just had a 10 day field excercise so it worked out rather well! ;D

that's AWESOME Chris. I have the custom tuned version and I understand that this new generation is supposed to be as good as the tuned ones.
here's a vid of mine in action:
let us know how you like it.

Oh yeah. I just ordered one this week as well, and if I thought I was excited before, you can only imagine how I feel now.

Hey chris, good choice on the sword. I bought a first production run of the LS and arming and have been very happy with then.

My next medieval sword is a full Atrim and should be in the mail any day now. it's the only way to go after this sword I think (until V.A. brings more signatures out). be warned: you are about to be spoiled.

I just ordered my Practical LS last night. I am anxious...and wondering what exactly "Mid-March" is gonna be. I'm stoked!
Was originally going to go for the Castille, but I wasn't too impressed with the reviews and the weight. Though...I am wondering if I should have saved up and bought the Kriegschwert instead.
I also had a thought on this practical line. If one knows what he/she is doing, wouldn't these very simple scabbards make for a great customization piece? I'm wondering if a pre-made chape might be able to get pried on there...
ShooterMike already made a suspension system for his. I'm wanting to know how he did that.

Crockett, I'm sure it's just a matter of putting the leather belts together in the right places. if I recall the suspension for the LS was pretty simple with little belt that buckle around the scabard. shouldn't be hard at all to do. I don't see why it would be hard at all to put some extra hardware on there. you might have to take off the leather chape-like thingy to have room to fit it properly but that's just a pocket knife-in-the-stitching job. very easy I'd think.
as for whether or not to get the Kriegschwert instead I'd say the Practical would be my choice until we know the status of the sharpening they give the Krieg. if the krieg comes up with the secondary bevel like the Castile did then to heck with that, I'll take the practical. you see, I'm a "function over form" kind of guy.
I can't wait to hear what everybody thinks of the new batch of practicals swince they are supposed to be as good as the custom tuned versions of batch one but with better tangs and hex nuts instead of slotted ones. maybe I'll have to buy one so I can compare.

Hey Crockett, I thought you were more of a Viking blade kinda guy? The Hedemark is for you...

Yeah, Howler, I know. But I decided since I have a high end, custom viking coming in, I want another Euro sword to get used to using a double edged blade. I thought about getting a viking design by Windlass, but overwhelming comments on the VA Atrims were just too much.
And I had to actually choose between the LS and the Arming by flipping a coin, LOL

Right on, Mike. Thank you very much! Very helpful! +1 for that bit, for sure.
But what does one do with those leather after tying? Do the straps just hang there off the scabbard? Or do you use both of them to attach a buckle?
EDIT: Never mind on one strand, further reading solved that problem. And by the way, Mike - what kind of leather did you use and where do you get it?
