There are very few production blades out there that I would spend even 1000 on. If I ever get anywhere near 3000 dollars for spending on a sword, it's gonna be on a custom blade.

I have a couple of swords from Fable Blades and BKS planned for the next year or two... and scabbards brom Brian at DBK for them. So if I had 3k in hand, I'd just get them done NOW. However... I would be VERY tempted to buy that Jody Sapmson LeafBlade Brian is selling right now... it's stunning.

If I had US$3000 to spend on a sword?
Sit back, gents and ladies, we're on a trip to Goofball Land! I would buy a Windlass Patton sword for approximately $165 delivered from KoA, and invest up to another $600 in getting it "fixed." I know machinists and blacksmiths, both shadetree and "hung out the shingle" enough to provide for any necessary annealing, distal tapering and attention to tightening up the fittings.
If it didn't need any extra work to be functional, that would leave me with $2835. If it needed the whole $600 to make it functional, that would leave me with $2235.
With the extra money ($2235-$2835) I would find the best saber instructor for the M1913 Patton sword that I could possibly find, and travel to him (or her) and study until the money ran out. That should buy a week or two, maybe a month, of intense sword study and training, and at the end of that time you would NOT want to cross blades with me, if I was carrying a Patton saber.

Slayer: not to be mean to you but I think you are now being a little bit childish with this whole fableblades thing. It was amusing when it first started but to think someone would deliberately snipe one of the blade you are after is rather silly. The way Bren's blades are selling any of us will be lucky to get our hands on the blades we want before someone else does.
As to what I would do, laufsblad from bren, a scabbard from DBK, and a deep sori kodachi mounted in handachi mounts from someone.

not trying to pick a fight, but that is just a tad offensive to folk that dedicate decades to learning the sword...

not trying to pick a fight, but that is just a tad offensive to folk that dedicate decades to learning the sword... You are correct, sir! My enthusiasm got the better of me. EDITED TO ADD: If, at the end of that time, I would be a much better swordsman, I would be, at best, an educated amateur, with neither the knowledge, nor the ingrained muscle memory, of the men and women who have seriously studied the cold arms. A case, here, of "clean heart and dense head" on my part.

Well, I USED to be able to deflect them with my braces . . . but ever since they took my braces off, well, now I'm just scared to try catching bullets in my teeth! Sigh, poor ol' Cossack. I sure can put my foot in my mouth. In my defense, I am generally willing to admit it!

Ah but all the lads are not such lovers of merry antics as myself, d'ya kin? An I would no want you to to put a foot awry with lads such as that , now would I? Indeed, so do no take offense to me guidance , boy-o if it be all the same to you ... just a bit of gentle correcting is all, so that we lads might all share a pint and a chuckle rather than fisticuffs and a brouhaha , don't ye know !

ah but japes and jokes are well received when one understands them so. Besides, fisticuffs and brouhaha are the mark of a true scot, but seriousness is no apart of fisticuffs only war and I see no war here, ye ken?

No no no... just trying to stoop down to its level.... lets face it ..."what would you buy if" threads are the generic diet root beer , Catsup rather than ketchup, or 83 'yugo of the sword forum world ( choose your own analagy)... if anything we're improving this threads resale value...
