Hilts, pommels, etc for customizing. Do I have to make these? The only I've found so far are for SCA beaters and they're aluminum.
TIA.

Stellar question, BlackhawkFan! It's one that I've been pondering on, myself. I take it that your concern is with European swords, and not with Japanese-style blades?

You can try DarkSword Armoury or other manufacturer direct types. Their parts aren't 'cheap' (but compare it to the work in making them ) but they can offer many of their swords' hilt parts. They theres Valentine Armouries www.varmouries.com/vspecial.html . Their guards are Cr@p, don't even bother. Luckily guards are easier to make than pommels. Their pommels are 'fine' with one exception. They will have a 1/4" hole drilled through it. Thats ok on the scentstoppers, though it may be slightly off line. The wheel pommels can have the hole up to 5mm off from centre. Slotting them can be a major challenge. Unless you have access to some decent machinery like drill presses and milling machines, it may be best to skip them. Theres also some Viking Sword place that sells parts, but I forget what they are called. Next you can ring all the retailers like Arms of Valour, Reliks, Kult of Athena and the rest. They may have some broken swords or seconds which were returned and which you might be able to salvage parts from. If they can make $60 off you they'll probably be happy to shift the parts. This is your best bet I reckon. Finally you can try making them. Buy some equipment, you never know where it might lead you. All the makers here will be happy to offer advice as you go along with your projects. Good luck.
