Friends, Romans, countrymen: Lend me your ears.
Or your eyeballs.
This post is 100 percent inspired by Marc Ridgeway's "3 years and counting" re-review of his Bamboo, found here: /index.cgi?board=swordreviews&action=display&thread=8801
I thought, "Hey, that's a great idea!" My interest in swords leans more towards the functional than the display side of things, and one of my concerns when evaluating swords is durability. Would some of the review squad----time, interest and availability provided---care to revisit some of their older reviews? I'm sure that some of the swords are no longer available on the market, and some of the swords may have been sold or traded off when the enthusiasm died down.
But it'd be nifty to see a revisiting of some of the "blasts from the past." (Man I'm being generous with the review squad's time!)

Not a bad idea... The only reviews I have up are failry recent... but I've got a couple other swords 'in the que' as it were getting ready to be reviewed. A follow up makes a lot of sense... it's often done with cars... an initail review, and a follow up review 24k miles 50 k miles or 2 years later or some such. A good idea.

I too like this idea. When I did a reveiw on the leuterit viking I gave it high marks, but was warned the hilt assembly would loosen over time. Its been a few months and alot of bottles later and have yet to see that happen. Maybe the original reveiwers could update their reviews. Add whatever changes, if any, with the performance of the sword after a few month. Possibly start a thread where people can request updates on a particular review. That way no one is going out of their way to do an update no one will read. Good suggestion

This idea does have merit. I like Absilits idea of a thread requesting updates on particular swords. I'd be up for it if asked.

This idea does have merit. I like Absilits idea of a thread requesting updates on particular swords. I'd be up for it if asked. Thats because your the man, Ric. After you poured oil all over your hands and tested the solid brass grip of that spartan sword just because I was worried about how slippery the grip might get, I find your dedication to helping SBG forum members find the truth of swords to be UNQUESTIONABLE. It is a good idea tho... interested parties can request a 'sword update' on a reviewed sword... and the reviewer, if she/he has time, can update as to how well the sword has held up over time. Good stuff.

Really great idea guys! I think this would be awesome! Ric: You sure you aren't doing re-enactments? "Sir the oil from the ballista has spilled all over my hands!" "Well, pick up your sword and fight man!" "Strength and honor!" lol... Sorry, I know it's lame I just couldn't help seeing it in my head when I read about the oiled hands with the sword grip.

Ric, I'd be curious to see how the Valiant old-style Viking has held up, if it's still in the collection.

Funny, you should mention that one, KC. I been working on getting it a bit sharper, I think I'll do an update review with a vid when I get a chance.

I have been slowly working on a comparison review of all the katana I have used, which will include a 9-months later on the kaze. it should be really interesting. I just hope I can get it done soon. I've had so little time lately

First off, great idea about the revisiting reviews. Somebody search a mod to set up a section for the requests. Oh, and considering pictures, you really thought only Ric "dresses up"?
