I knew I should not have looked at this sword...now I WANT it!!! And of course, not in stock. By the way, nice cut vid, Ric...don't know if I'd commented on it previously.

I'm also curious if the next batch will have the proper allen hex nuts?
Although I just got rid of mine, it would be nice to have a "Practical" counterpart to the Crusader when I get it, so that I can have a working sword and save the Crusader for when I am a bit more confident and skilled.
Although, if you have large hands, I'd recommend wearing gloves, as the grip was rather small for me. If I got another one, I would consider building a new, more robust grip for it.

He's right about the grip... a tad dainty... but since the sword is light and well balanced it's not as bad as it could be. Certainly would benifit from an updated grip tho.

Well, dainty would be relative. I think the grip is just about right, myself. Thanks, Paladin.

S'why I said if you've got large hands, Rick. ;D Exactly. I have giant Bear Paws... this is why I had to trade away that Gen 2 12th Century... For someone with smaller hands, the grip is likely PERFECT.

I got midgit hands (thanks mum) so it would probably fit in my hand more appropriately then most. GGGRRRRR marty you have the two blades I'm tossing up between the Oakeshott XIV and VA practial arming ......... Cant decide which is more appropriate for I:33 sword and buckler, probably the Oakeshott but wondering if I could get away with the VA Prac .........

The VA practical is more ergonomic for a larger variety of hand sizes, the grip is smaller than the windlass type xiv, yet fits my (x-large gloves are too small) hand beautifully. The windlass grip is a smooth leather, so VA has a little better ''sticky'' grip. Both have good blades, balance, cutting and you'll be happy either way. But if for small hands the scale tips just a little in the direction of the VA.

Nah, Rick. I'm just a giant, and my hands are proportionally huger. So it was just a bad grip for me personally. ;D

That GG Templar must fit your hand a lot better, it had a much more beefy grip.

You're right about that. I do wish it tapered a bit more though. As is, the whole grip is beefy, and I'd like for it to taper just after my middle finger. I'll probably tackle it with a file soon (since it's peened).

I took about a month to decide between getting the VA practical arming or the Windlass type XIV, what finally decided it was impatience and the VA being sold out. Was still planning on picking up the VA at some point, but I'll probably just save my pennies and get the Crusader by them instead.
I think for a situation like this it really just comes down to personal preference, but it sure would be nice to be able to afford both, huh?
As far as hand sizes go, I've got medium-small hands and the Windlass type XIV fits perfectly for me.
