I picked up another Generation 2 sword recently second hand... but I have some issues with the edge. All the Gen 2 swords I've handled have had a very nice appleseed edge. Smooth, with no signs of file work or scraping. They have not always been sharp... some have been, others not, but the geometry has always been great and smooth. I've often praised Gen 2 as one of the only Euro sword makers in the sub 300 catagory that does this... most others have ugly secondary bevels and rough edges. The one I just got has a VERY rough edge... it looks to have been filed, BADLY. It's jaged in some spots and rough around the whole edge. I have never seen this from a Gen 2 blade from the factory. The guy I bought it from says he has never even used it, much less sharpened it... that he got it stright from Clyde that way. So I wanted to show a few comparasion pictures... on top is my Gen 2 Chaos sword... it has the smooth edge profile I have seen in all my Gen 2 swords. On bottom is the new sword. Has anyone eles ever seen an edge like this from Gen 2?

yikes man! that sure is ugly. no problem though, add it to your sword-care day to-do list. looks like it just needs to be filed out then sharpened properly. have fun!

Not on my two new Gen2's. I'm sure the customized one I am expecting from Brenno that he sharpened will be good also. I am very surprised if that edge did indeed come from the factory that way! Are you willing to say what Gen2 this is? I have the Black Prince and Excalibur.

Yeah, it needs some work obviously... What I'm wondering tho is if anyone has actually gotten one with an edge like this from the factory. I know I have not.

Damn, Sean, that looks nasty. I've gotten four Gen2s, two second hand, two from the factory. All came with a decent edge.
Totally beside the point but is that a 12th century sword?

No... it's the Gen 2 Celtic sword. Yeah, all the Gen 2's I have seen, both from factory and from second hand, have had the nice, smooth, appleseed edge... nothing like this.

Bouwf?!
Doesn't look like the ones I've seen. There can always be a slip up with any manufacturer... or perhaps Gremlins chewed it in the night.
Not too bad to dress, I hope?

Call Gen2 up and complain, maybe?

Did the person you bought it from also acquire it secondhand? May have been that way when they got it, hence why they never used it.
Did thy mention anything about rough edges when they sold it to you?

I have been selling and handling Gen 2 swords since before they were even called Gen 2 and have never seen an edge like that on any of their swords. Not saying it did not arrive that way from the manufacturer, but I would say odds are against it.

Yeah, I agree with you, Jason. I was just quoting what had been said in the OP. Gen2 sounds pretty cool, IMHO... -Slayer

Wow. How well do you know the guy you bought it from? If it was like that when he got it, why didn't he return it? Did he tell you about the edge beforehand? I can't tell from the pics but it looks like maybe a badly botched sharpening experiment. My money would be on the previous owner having done the damage.

Jason:
That my impression as well. I have had a few Gen 2 swords pass threw my hands... and still have my Chaos sword... and each and every one of them had AWESOME blade geomatry. They always had a nice, appleseed edge that was smooth and NEVER jagged. Random: No, the guy said he got it new from Clyde, and had NEVER used it. He also made NO mention of the craptastic edge before I bought it, only said that he got it that way AFTER I recived it and wrote him to ask about it. Maz:
That was my best guess to how this happened as well. I don't know the guy at all... I got this one from someone who, as far as I know, is NOT on SBG. Ugh.

Shadow: I too concur with the others who say it is a botched sharpening job, it looks like whoever tried to sharpen it put the file flat to the edge and "sawed" it backwards and forwards. Unfortunate that such a beautiful sword is ruined. If you went through paypal you might be able to claim your money back citing the reason that the seller misrepresented the sword. The other thing you could do is contact Clyde and see if you can send it to him to be resharpened and profiled correctly.

Oh right, you did say he said direct...duh. I pretty much echo BW and Bren at this point. I'd have sent the PoS right back to the guy and demanded my money back. If he refused I'd take it up with the agency that handled the money transfer. I'm assuming there were no photos shared before you bought it? This is why photos are important.
