i feel that the forum has changed face this is supposed to be sub $300 forum.. but all i have seen is reviews of 300 plus swords as of late(at least in the forum). I'm really getting tired of hearing "you got 300? save up and by a raw/tori/DF" as much as i like hearing about these, they are not what(i feel) sbg is about. sure there good and the pics and info are great. but in reality ill never by them...why? well i wont spend more than 300 dollars on a sword . I'm not going to competitions I'm not formally trained in any sword arts. i would really like to see more focus on sub $300 with out the "save more"attitude

Hi, abghari828, I just checked the review section and there are a some 300+ swords mentioned there but the majority are sub 300 blades. Yeah, I don't care for the save up and buy a real sword comments either. Unless I've asked a guestion that required a suggestion of the like. The focus on lower end swords is what drew me here also, tho I have learned to be tolerant of the pricer ones. Now, what really bothers me is the kat people seem to be taking over. ;D

Now, what really bothers me is the kat people seem to be taking over. ;D Aye... we need to grab a couple of Gladii and Bastered swords and get to work on these Katana fanboys! Oh... wait... I have 5 katana, with 2 more in my future... But... I love my Euro's... and have MANY more of those in my future... So... confused...

It's a phase, Shadow....Some people get confused about...things... ;D ;D ;D when I read this and looked at your avatar Kid, man I tell you, some disturbing ideas crossed my mind. . . let's not go into that. I'm a kat/western hybrid too. I love all swords equally. I would like to keep us in the sub $300 range but the prices are creeping up and the quality is creeping down, with a few exceptions. I think it would be reasonable to expand our target range a little

I dunno, Tom, I think there are plenty decent sub 300 blades as yet. That Windlass German Bastard gets good marks and KC's offerings being a few I'd mention.

I know for a fact that my Windlass Vernueil cuts like a lightsaber, and it's only $200, so there must be some GREAT swords for $300. -Slayer EDIT: spelling

I agree. There are still PLENTY of great swords that can be found below or right around the 300 mark. If anything, I think there are MORE good options these days, not less.... I absolutely don't mind reading about the more expensive swords... and hope to get some of them myself when I can. However I don't think SBG's focus has shifted, or should. I think the majority of the reviews and disscusions here still center around the Sub 300 market.

But don't be hatin' on the kat lovers!! There are still lots to pick from in the Sub $300 Katanas too. There has been some higher end swords reviewed, but there has also been a lot of really good $300 and sub $300 new katana offerings reviewed as well. I don't really think the board has shifted as much as attracted a wide range of demographics. And some what to show off their new more expensive swords. Nothing wrong with that. It's nice to see and hear about some of the sharpies that we may never get the chance to hold and swing ourselves.

I agree absolutely, Whizz. Actually it kind of aggravates me that there are more good choices in the sub 300 range for the katana crowd and I own a couple. It's especially evident around the 100 dollar mark and below. Why can't they do that with the Euros?
Ditto on the higher end blades, I got a couple those too (Euros) and they are great. This forum has never discouraged the discussion of these and it hasn't detracted from the lower end focus that I can tell.

The lack of new reviews is probably because, with the economy how it is, not as many people are buying the swords in the first place. Less people buying=less people reviewing. -Slayer

I don't mind seeing reviews for swords over $300. At the same time I would like SBG to maintain is public image focused on sub $300 swords. There are a number of reasons for this. First of which is that like the crowd that this sub $300 image attracts to the forum. SBG people are just so cool Changing the image may attract a more snooty crowd and may drive out our base members. Where will they go? Create a vacuum and something will fill it. The current image of SBG as specializing in sub $300 swords continues to grow our membership. There are plenty of other forums talking about how great $700 swords are.

2 points I find 1) With the economy going the way it is how many swords will be left in the sub 300 catagory as companies are either gonna start focusing on more quality/specialised products to get our cash eg. VA Signature, Hanwei Tinker etc, and even the swords just on the cusp of 300 will start seeing 320, 340 ........ climb climb 2) $300.00 .......... U ....... S ......... My flamin DSA Gothic cost me about $460.00AUS back even before all this economic who-what started up ....... when our dollar was 75c before our AUS dollar did well at 90c then the bust happened. I rarely know what a good value sub 300 is by an economic standard ....... we got anyone from smaller countries where buying a 300 buck blade isnt quite .......... Yeah just my rant ......... sorry if its not in the topic ballpark

To be honest I myself did a review on a sword that was over the mark. Just one, though. I feel like the majority of the good reviewers do sub 300 and if not explain why they chose to do so. I agree that Kats get more attention around here, but I think thats just a reflection of what most of the folks here like. I personally like euros and have a better knowledge of western arts, but I don't feel overlooked here because of that. All in all, in the short time I've been here I don't feel a change.
