or a falchion.
Does anyone know of any good ones out there? I'm going to cut with it, but would like some input on what it should be.
Thanks,
Ed.

I'm luvin' my ATrim Courtrai Falchion. And the Windlass Medieval Falchion isn't too bad.

The Windlass offering I touted is about $150. How much cheaper does it need to be to "fit in?"
Windlass actually has at least 3 falchions, one called the "Archer's Falchion", that have been reviewed here. They all got decent points in the reviews. All three are worth the money, and make nice starting points for a customization project.
The Windlass "Type IV" (can't believe they still call it that) is a VERY nice blade for the $150-200 price tag. I just got one and I'm a bit amazed as how well it handles. With its short blade length it fits the "Archer Sword" niche well.

I have the discontinued Windlass St. Michael's sword, and it was a great falchion, very lively and quick. There may still be a few out there for around 169$.

I can never figure out why Windlass calls it an Oakeshott Type IV....Obviously one would think it's a typo of XIV, since that's what it is. But it's had that typo for awhile now, and Ewart started his typology at X in continuation with Petersen's...I guess it's just one of those things to shrug off. Heh.
Edit: Doh! I mean Wheeler, not Petersen.

Well, just now I got done trying to blue the crossguard and pommel of my windlass 15th century longsword. I have to wait until sometime tomorrow to see if it had any effect, but I'm hoping it's going to look decent. I followed some guides here on unpolishing and got rid of the windlass writing on there.
I would like to do some changes to the handle as the wire looks kind of bad with the large solder, but I'm not sure what customization I could do there. WHat else could I do do the handle?
I was thinking for the time being this could be an "archers sword" even though it's a rather large sword, but I think it would be better than nothing.
By the way, I got the blueing idea from Billiam who has a really interesting looking 15th Century sword. Good idea Bill:D.

Well for threaded hilts, I always recommend doing a hot blue. No reason to resort to the tedium and difficulty of a cold blue when you don't have to. And hot blue just looks sexier . Anyways for a good archers sword, the windlass type IV is a very good choice. And there are TONS of very postive reviews of that sword.
