Hey guys, I have been considering adding one of three windlass swords to my collection and now seems like a great time to do it. The three swords are the; sword of courtenuova sword of troy There is something about this word that draws me, I don't know if it is the shape or what it is. italian short sword I love short blades, longer blades don't do much for me for whatever reason, unless it is a hand and a half or a two hander. Opinions are appreciated.

I have no direct experinces with any... but the Italian Short Sword holds more interest for me. Also, I trust windlass more with shorter blades... the shorter, the better. ;D The sword of Troy... I noticed that one a couple months ago... and almost bought it myself. It looks like it might feel a bit more like a chooper then a true sword or cutter... but something about it looks good to me too.

The top one for me, but with a good grip job. several risers and some nicer leather. Though I have reservations on it's rigidity. Maybe the Italian Short sword will be the most practical, and has a sexy grip. Might be worth chasing a quote from Lawrence Ordnance but then a again...

Bren: Even with shipping included I reckon that the italian short sword would be cheaper from KoA.

I'm digging that Sword of Troy. Out of the three, I would go with that. Oh, and the Italian Short Sword appears to be the same as the Sword of Milan, listed at the official seller for 20 dollars less. www.museumreplicas.com/p-298-sword-of-milan.aspxIt got very good feedback from the two people that commented.

The sword of Cortenueva looks good. I'm pretty sure the blade won't be whippy: it's not that long and it's wide. For my part, I like the looks of it...a fairly good representation of this type of swords, I think...But I read negative comments -here on the forum- about Windlass brass hilt parts being not so solid...if only they had done it with steel guard and pommel! Maybe you'll need to re-tighten the assembly at some point in the near future...
The italian has been discussed around here somewhere a while back (I'm sorry, at the office, can't search, should be easy to find) ...many didn't like it, but I like the looks of this one too...nice pommel anyway. It's also kind of historically plausible. I think it has, in fact, an italian renaissance flair to it...
The sword of troy, I'm not too sure about...the guard anyway could have been much nicer and again, it's brass...interesting blade shape thought. But that guard doesn't do it for me. It's of course not a representation of an historical type of sword, more of a mix...but, hey, it's kind of an unique design.
So, for me, it would be a duel between the cortenueva and the italian...but that's just me and, in the end, of course, go for the one that fills your needs and tastes!

I like the top one too (courtenuova), with a cord-wrapped grip. It has a similar look, though more simple, of the Edward III sword.

I love the Italian Short Sword, may be my Girlfriends Valentines Present. How is the KOA Sharpening? I've purchased two swords sharpened by KOA. Both were fine. The edge will be beveled. If that bothers you, you'd best sharpen it yourself. I don't know if KOA actually does the sharpening or not.

Well, I ordered a Windlass GBS sharpened a couple weeks ago and got it in TWO DAYS from Chicago. I am pretty sure that 2 days is not long enough to be ordered, sharpened, and sent from Conyers, GA to Chicago, IL, then sent to me. I would guesstimate that they are sharpening them at their facility - unless of course they had a sharp on hand...
The bevel is noticable, but it easily hones/sands out to be nearly invisible. It's a pretty servicable edge, I've got a number of Windlasses with a factory sharp job on them and they have stayed that way though a good bit of abuse. To me, $18 is worth the time you will save rather than having to spend a few hours on it.
