Ok, Slayer. This is one that was in the works. Keep in mind, I like to try and make most of my designs semi-simple for the sake of making them affordable to make. So, with that said...here we go! Presenting, for Slayer here, Nihtfeond - the Bane of Darkness. Stats: Length: 46" Blade: 37" Weight: 2lb 8oz

WHOA!!! I'm glad I asked... That is, by far, my favorite design so far. I'd even like it more than a few of Bren's blades, assuming that this was made by him, of course. GREAT work, +1 karma. Thanks!! -Slayer

Glad you like it, Slayer. These longsword designs take longer,m but I'm getting a hang of them. The hardest part is making an original cross guard and pommel. Oh! And a speciall thank you to Alvin for the Old English dictionary he linked me too. It helped bigtime for the name.

0MG!!!! dude you're friggen psychic!!! My two favourite colors are Green and Brown (the color of Trees and life, not poo as most my age will point out). And I most definitely prefer the Longsword If you make these swords fully functional, you have a buyer

Crockett: I love it... great design man. AAAAAAH! WHERE DID THE BELT COME FROM! Once I have money I'm going to send my Two-handed Gothic to Brian and have him make a fancy grip for me assuming I cannot do it myself, I do wish to try.

How do you mean, Poo, by "fully funtional"? I design all my swords assuming they will be fully funtional. However, if I may, these longswords - if you want them done right - I would suggest Angus Trim. Personally, I bet even Brenno will suggest him. However, Brenno would probably rock these swords as well. Another guy you might want to look at is Cris Fields at Sterling Armory - found here: www.sterlingarmory.com/Chris has a little bit of wait on him right now, but he is freindly and a great guy to work with. But, Poo, if you need a sword that is looking to be funtional (and you're a serious about this) I'd be happy to design the cross section and get some stats for the blade. I always design my blades assuming they will have two things: #1: A full, sturdy tang. My Vikings would probably have to be peened, though the other long sword could probably handle a hex-nut or allan wrench setup. #2: A fully sharpened "Apple Seed" cross section where, instead of a straight edge, the edge of the sword curves slightly as it angles to a sharp point. This turns the blade into a kind of "cutting wing" and makes the cutting ability of the sword a bit more reliable - if my own studying is correct. In the end, however, no mater how much I design a sword - I could design everything from the cross section to the weight...but that is all still on paper. True funtionallity of the sword is, in the end, not up to me as the designer. It is up to the buyer and the smith who makes it. So, Poo, if you become serious about getting your own sword made, save up some money and hit me up. I'll always be more than happy to make a design for you. As I've mentioned before, I want to turn my designing into a business, but while I'm figuring out how exactly to do that, I'm just taking requests, lol. Thanks, Crockett

by "fully functional" I mean I could take it into medieval times and win battles with it without it breaking, though I would never do such a thing Sparring purposes mainly... thanks for the tip Shaddow

Alright! Getting into another designing groove. Wootness! This one is an Arming sword design. I was thinking about a grip in between hand-and-a-half and single hand. I suppose the grip alone would be about the same length as the new VA-AT Practical Arming Sword. I also designed a hilt at my college cafeteria while showing a friend the parts of a sword. And so I just copied from my notebook. I have nicknamed this sword "The Gondor" because it reminds me of how I'd imagine a Gondorian weapon to look. Enjoy! Length: 41" Blade Length: 33" Blade Width at Hilt: 1 3/4" (1.75") Weight: 2lb. 2 oz. Thanks all. ;D

Very nice, Crockett! My only concern with that particular design would be how huge the pommel is in propertion to the guard. With such a slim, elegant guard, the large pommel looks kind of out of place, IMO... also, that would bring the POB so far back that it would have almost no authority in the cut, although that could be solved by having a hollow pommel. Great work, and I especially love the scabbard. You are truly one of the best designers I've ever seen. Ever thought about doing some pure fantasy stuff? -Slayer

Well, I see this as a quite pure fantasy, just not that extravagant fancy fantasy we are used to. But just because of that I love crockett's designs.

Yes, Crockett's blades certainly have their fair share of fantastical flair. (Hey look! I rhymed! ;D) However, I was refering to more obviously fantasy-based works, such as this: www.fableblades.com/Darkness.htmlOkay, okay... Really, I mean like ANY of the swords on this page ;D: www.fableblades.com/Swords.htmlI think that, being such an awesome designer already, Crockett could design some extraordinary fantasy pieces. Just IMO, though. -Slayer

Slayer: the sword looks more like it is designed to cut, by having such a large pommel it pulls the weight back which aids in the balance of the blade without having a detrimental effect on its cutting ability. I also don't think it is exactly drawn to scale either.

The problem with fantasy, guys, is that the more fanciful the sword gets, the less affordable it becomes. I try to make blades and fittings that stay within an affordable range. For instance, most of my vikings probably would be under $1,000, depending on the smith. But the sword I'll be posting soon is a bit of a beast in the money dpartment because of the scabbard. I think this next one could only be done by Brian or C. Fletcher. The scabbard alone would probably be over $700. But I try to keep my stuff practical and functional - though I've begun to go a bit overboard in my own opinion on my long swords. But one could also take the fittings and scabbard designs and build them around another blade. This next design is for my own personal use, and I want to build it around the Atrim practical LS and have the work done by C. Fletcher or Brian. Oh, and thank you for the kind words, guys. Appreciate it always! Crockett EDIT: OK! Time to get that design on here. This one is a selfish design, as it is for my personal use...so at this point I'm just showing off LOL. Please forgive me. I would love opinions though. Thanks all.

I think it is impressive but the blade looks a little out of scale with the rest of the assembly. You like the ranger sword from the LoTR I'm guessing? This bears an uncanny resemblance.

The Hilt especially, I know. I didn't mean for it to turn out that way, but when it was all done and drawn up, I couldn't bring myself to change it. But I like the guard, which was my own design....drawn randomly on paper one day....and the pommel is certainly Ranger-based. And the blade doesn't look too out of whack to me. Are you thinking it's too thin?
Actually...maybe the blade is too long?

It's not too thin, maybe a bit too long but with a nice massive hilt it shouldn't be a problem. +1, beautiful sword even if some things are going to be changed. Very elegant.

The blade length was what I was referring to, just in the picture. Not the length that it would be if made for real.

Gotcha! And thank you. I improved a bit on the length and edited the picture. This is something I need to do some research in for pricing.

So, a good friend of mine is an aspiring fantasy writer. She has a story, meant to be an RPG, that I have been helping with. She's getting everything together, and I've been doing what I love to do - designing and giving the story background and history. Long story short, I was asked to make sword. My last design, Engelas, was one of those designs. This next one is for a character she has made up and has meant to be an archer. I was thinking a short sword...and I've been wanting to take another shot at a leaf blade. So here it is, fresh off the press! Fréohype - "Lady Hip" (because it's curvy....) I'm not going to post the stats - it's a fantasy blade only. On error you might find after looking at it closely, the scabbard neck is too narrow for the widest part of the blade. But when I was done with it, I was happy with the look and didn't want to mess with it. Please give your thoughts! Thanks all, Crockett
