I am going to be working on another design here soon (after the Super Bowl and such) that I have in my head. It was inspired by the blade of the Global Gear clay tempered viking, and will be called "The Foreigner" - sporting a Viking blade and pommel, but with Japanese, or at least oriental style, grip (tsukamaki) and hopefully an oriental looking hilt. It'll be a challenge, for sure.
Also, if any one is interested...I added a poll. lol

Cannot wait to see it! It sounds strange right now, but I wouldn't doubt you could make it work.

I did just think of a problem with this being an "official" sword....katanas are all over the place with the chinese forges...but who would mass produce this kind of sword?
My guess is DSA might be the best bet...or Valiant. But I don;t know who is close to who in SBG.

BKS, Shadow? Don't think I recognize that.
But, I also have another design I popped out....making it instead of watching the Cards loose...
Eventually, I might start a thread in designs...but this one is actually getting looked at. LOL
Grimlyte, the Demon Cleaver.
Viking Fittings, and based very loosely on the single edged "Berserker" from swords that Albion makes. Not sure what they are officially called. Features two fullers, solid blade, and the sharpened edge is clay tempered.
Length: 37" Blade length: 28" Blade Width: 2" Weight: 2.9lb

Ok! One more time!
I started this one last night and then just finished it. I finished it all up and realized there was something missing....so I added fur to the scabbard.
Length: 36" Blade: 29" Blade Width: 2.7" at base Fittings: Iron hilt, Iron pommel with brass accent, Buckskin grip Scabbard Fittings: Rabbit or Reindeer fur, Leather strip wrap, brown leatehr wrapped wooden core, Iron mouth and endcap.
For whatever reason...I really like this one.

I like Saga. Very cool concept. I'm trying to imagine how the brass fits into the pommel...

The Brass? Um...well....um....
You're Brenno! You'd find a way! I hope...
No, really, it was just there as a decoration...it may not really have anyway of getting in there without actually making the whole thing as a cast first, I suppose. Even then...
Anyhoo! I have that Eastern-inspired design. Fara: The Traveler.
A Viking style grip, pommel and blade, and with scabbard and hilt inspired by Han Dynasty swords of China.
Length: 37" Blade Length: 29" Blade Width: 1.7" at base Weight: 2 lb.
And with this sword, I am finally out of ideas for the moment. I kept making these models as they came to me, but the fresh material is all used up for now - that was my last one. I'm sure some more will come eventually....but for now, I'll give it a rest.

Thanks, Utilityslave. I've seen their stuff before, but it looks rather expensive, doesn't it? I mean, it probably needs to be - all that work cannot go without cost. It looks like good pricing for the product, but SBG is all about Sub-$300 swords. How can you do that with a private smith?

BKS has been approached before for SBG projects but decisions couldn't be agreed on by us so they never flew. Pricing would have to be negotiated and might surprise you or not. Depends on what is wanted and how many and timing of course. Being a SBG project might help the price as well. Matt would have to be consulted. I can not speak for Matt amd I don't know if they can be done for <$300 but I do know that Matt would be happy to consider it and get back to you. He and Kerry are good people............like Brenno!

Agreed with Utilityslave. That is the reason might decide to approach him with a custom sword project. The pricing is great, the quality is fantastic and he is generally a nice guy who tries to make things work. Not to mention he is in the U.S.A so it will not be a stretch for me to order from him.

Honestly? I never knew that! Makes me want one even more, even if all I could buy is the blade! I would just whistle happily as I shave away at some wood to make a scabbard and handle.
