Looking for a bit of a casual census about one of the big up and coming manufacturers Valiant Armoury and their Signature Line of swords. So far we got the Castille, Kriegschwert, Bristol, Actium, the coming Hedemark and late in 2009 the Crusader and Malatesta (one which seems to be getting alot of reply posts for).
The question I'm posting is what sword would you love yourself to see done as a Signature model for VA by Gus Trim and Christian Fletcher. Pic's of base model swords to stir the creative juices would be appropriate as well.
I personally wouldnt half mind a somewhat forgotten euro sword on the production lines these days the Grosse Messer or even Krieg Messer which I've ran on about in the Euro section

Feel free to post anything, even daggers and knives if you feel they would be appropriate.

A stylized version of the Thorpe Falchion, more accurate than the MRL one. Something along the lines of the Albion Vassal. We need a good falchion out there for us single-edged fans. ;D

I agree with Odingard .. as he want the Thorpe falchion ... I prefer something more massive, with massive blade , like the Conyers falchion. bjorn.foxtail.nu/h_conyers_eng.htm

4th vote in a row for a single edge! I would like to see something that falls between the 2 listed above- with a bit of the Windlass Italian Falchion thrown in. for comparison: Albion Vassal: Windlass Italian Falchion: A tiny bit of curve to the whole blade, that wicked false edge at the tip, two fullers, some curvy lines in the hilts, with a slight downturn to the pommel.

Yeah I reckon single edged euro's are'nt explored enough, I mean no bad thing that arming and longswords get the most coverage they do allow for most variety (plus buyer desirability) but the good stiff spine and taper to wicked hollow ground edge is very sexy in a brutal way. I reckon the Thorpe falchion would be a good edition (cough Albion Vassel inspired cough). The Conyers looks brutal but they might get nervous letting a heavy blade back into the reputation dynamic they are trying to develop.
I like that blade bloodwraith, is that like a Side Sword or more a form of sabre ?? a side sword or rapier would be good addition at one point, but even though I'm a sabre lover I would see them leave something of that nature till WAY into the peace (like 2011-12 or something), or even alone all together.

Hello again!! .. Also it can be done like the real king henry VIII sword .. something like falchion-saber single handed sword ... engraved blade ,, seems light but I said i want something massive,, this one seems normal -- www.tudorhistory.org/henry8/h8sword.jpg

I'm with you on that one. A more accurate falchion would be great as there are few alternatives between the pricey vassal from albion and the MRL ones. There are the Angus trim ones but they are priced around $450 so a $300 quality falchion would be welcome. I would also like to see a more accurate version of the type XIV sword in the met museum in new york. MRL and deltin both have version of this sword, but none are coming close to the original to my opinion. Finaly, a hollow ground blade would also be welcome (Gen 2 leads the way of the sub $300 hollow ground blade with the henry V (mine is on its way) but more would be great). That's about it Cheers, J

Well it just so happens that Valiant and Odin blades are doing a new Warder design, which is a single edge euro styled bastard saber. The art has been approved and prototype is due out soon.

Fighting a battle with the flu today {for a week actually} and losing the battle, I decided to swing thru SBG for a sec..........
There is a falchion prototype going to China soon, but its a cutter, ie, its "practical" right now. I can see a future with CF using the blade and making a "Signature" out of it, but right now, just the "practical".........
Since much of the Maker's Mark blades are future "Signature" candidates, it should probably be noted that there is a "Maker's Mark" medieval saber blade on the machine, ready for heat treat.
The blade as a "Maker's Mark" will be mounted up a single hand sword of the late 14th, early 15th century. Since the blades of the fifteenth century Hungarian sabers are very similar to some 15th century Turkish blades, I've decided to go backwards, ie, find something in the Turk lands during that time period and bring it to Central Europe. Doesn't hurt that there is a rusty hulk of a saber blade found in Hungary, time period 14th/ 15th century, that may have resembled the blade I'm making, and what's left of the tang, well lets say that a cruciform hilt is not out of the question.........
Historically plausible vs historically accurate..........
A couple of "longsabers" coming later this year, who's inspiration can be traced to 15th century Hungary......

The saber I posted is a swiss sabre, definitely not a side sword and if I had 3 grand well I probably wouldn't buy it but it is a very beautiful sword and from an australian maker. Seems we have some serious talent down under, not only that the guy who makes them does them as historically accurate as possible.

A saber would be very cool.
I'd also like to see a cutlass, although I don't know if that is in the wheelhouse of these very talented designers.

Personally, I'd love to see a backsword along the lines of the Windlass German one. Something with the reach to compete with a rapier, but none of that pansy poking... I wanna hack a limb off or something... (Just kidding about "that pansy poking", I respect the power of the thrust) (wow, that sounded bad....)

A swiss saber ( i have Lutel's one in mind ). A type XX ( with some fancy back harness ). A schiavona ( that would be so sweet ). A celtic ( leaf blade or not ). A messer ( what are they waiting for ) Why not a shot at a fantasy blade, an oriental or even an hammer or an axe, i mean, those guys have the potential to develop one of the best line of products in the sword market today and with an affordable price tag ! With the guys they have brought in this project i think that they simply cant go wrong.

I would like to see an affordable two hander. But real two hander, not longsword. Maybe something like A&A or Windlass English two hander. Windlass is of course too whippy and A&A is of course expensive. Or a nice claymore.

Exactly Luka .. i think the same .. but for two hander I would prefer a sword with 15" grip and 2" pommel .. something like that .. not 11" total lenght (grip/pommel) .. maybe dreams come true .. someday!
