don't ask.... all i will say is my friend found it in a Field in Redford and gave it to me... its heavy, has NO edge seems to be made from iron and is extremely strong and heavy. i broke a 2x4 with it... easy ... its about 5 feet long...half an inch thick on the spine and half a foot wide flat if you know what i mean i guess. its shocking that i could swing it to the point of breaking the 2x4 (could not move it at all after..too worn out....) its scary.. what cha think of this thing... no ... i don't count it as a sword as much as i do a ...monster

Wow! I am in a mix of awe and confusion! Did you shape it? I cannot tell if I like it or not!
All I can wonder is... Why it was created and why was it in a field?

The funny thing about it is it seems to resemble my big-anime-(sword?) project.

I just wonder how tip heavy it is. Some big (Swords?) are intensely hard to use, others are a bit more manageable. I am curious to know if this is one of the good ones.

LOL......... Yes...... it is almost impossible to hold with one hand and even more so to swing tho if you get the momentum or whatever going you can swing it alot more than you would expect.

You should touch it up and hang it on your wall. It would be an awesome and unique display piece.

What that is is the cutting edge of the front bucket of a backhoe or loader. When new they're bolted on (you see the holes), but they're often torched off (again, you can see the holes) when worn out as the nuts on the carriage bolts are no longer useable. Looks like someone profiled that one down. I've always been curious what kind of steel they are, as they're a nice thick material, and if good steel...would make many substantial sword blades.
Matter of fact, I may just go pick one up out of the yard and try it. It may be a waste of fuel and effort...but it may also harden nicely...and make a very serviceable blade =).

Cris hey man thanks for the info on this ...umm thing xD i think its made of Iron seriously... would Iron make a good sword ? i know nothing about making swords.... What would make you think it was made of simple iron rather than steel? What those pieces are designed for is to take the abuse of digging into the ground, so the actual bucket edge doesn't have to. Basically a new front buckets about $13k, wheras one of those edges is about $100 lol. When they wear out, you remove them and replace them with a new one. If you look at the front edge of yours (where the bevel is), it will probably be rounded and scuffed up with dings and dents and long lines going across the blade. This is from the dirt and rocks scraping it. Now I'm definately going to have to pick one up so I can do some spark testing and hardening tests lol. Cris

Cris simply because i was compairing it to some iron pelets i have and it seemed to be the same stuff.. im not a pro with knowing what kinda metal something is made out of but it seemed like a safe guess. thats all. oh well ..i guess i got a big hunk of ....yikes lol
