Hi, I was wondering if anyone owns the Operative's Sword replica by Windlass from the movie Serenity? How does it function? Unfortunately I can't seem to find a good review of the sword online.

I had a sword that was very similar to this one only lacking the holes in the blade part, I killed a tree with it wich was my first real cutting practise. The tree died and so did the sword, though it was quite satisfying to swing. It broke because I didn't know of the rule that says not to cut trees cause it will damage your sword and it took a giant set making it unusable. Still they arent the same sword but id say the grip and silhouette are 100% equal.

I own one. Somewhere way down in the review section is my my review on it and the other Serenity movie swords. It's a typical Windlass repro - decent quality for the price, good look and feel. Light weight and very maneuverable. It does come unsharpened, and I've left it that way - so no cutting tests. One of these days I might get around to making some sort of display plaque for it. It was one of the first swords I had purchased. These days if it's not sharp, I don't bother.

I bought one a few days ago with some extra xmas money I had.I live only about 30 min from MR so with no shipping charge and a 15% coupon I had from an earlier sale I paid $89.00 total and that was with it sharpened (it is now a razor).I havent had a chance to cut anything with it yet but I gotta say it handles great. It's very light and fast and being only 24 inches of blade it handles dam well. It is one piece of steel with wood scales for handles and wrapped with leather cord so it feels great.I think they were something like $140.00 originally in the catalog so the money I spent was well worth it. Decent leather scabbard with it and the way the belt goes around the shoulders and the sword goes on the back makes it very easy to pull out when needed. So I guess I like it,you should probably get one.

The link isn't complete...the part after it but not in blue is supposed to be included.
Just copy and paste the whole thing into your browser.

Don't even check the link. It's a complete POS.
It's not a matching dagger. It's a Chinese knockoff. A real matching dagger would be functional, and have a similar handle.

Yep it's defanatly a Chinese knockoff but it matches my full sized operatives sword exactly and it's only $13.00 except it's shorter which makes it a decent matching dagger piece for mounting next to my fullsized one .As for it being stainless at 12 inches who cares.A lot of daggers that inexpensive and short and made from stainless. The brittle nature of stainless dosent seem to matter as much in shorter kniver/daggers.Hell some of my Henkel chefs knifes are 12 inches long and cost $100.00.But thanks for your opinion of it being a complete POS,i'm glad we all get to have our own opinions around here especially at $13.00 to match my Windlass operatives sword mounted together on the wall.BTW sorry about the link i am not very good at posting pics and links, thanks to whom ever fixed it.

Hm, I like the Blade sword better, as well as the movie. Serenity was a bit confusing at parts, don't know, maybe my brain was in stand by when I watched it...

If it's for costuming, fine. Just don't expect it to hold up to cutting, even at only 12 inches.
Regardless of how affordable it is, it's still a non-functional knock-off. You'd be far happier with a dagger/knife that's functional and COMPLIMENTS(as oppose to directly mirroring) your sword.
Ask anyone here. Cheap, nonfunctional purchases to appease a short-term goal never really appease. Look at SlayerOfDarkness. His collection is a huge mound of cheapies one can find at a flea market(such as the item you linked to), and he'd probably give his right nut for something decent and functional.

Why do you think it's non functional as a knife. I'm a chef for a living and 90 percent of my own knives and all of the restaurant kitchens are stainless steel so it's not like stainless cant cut,it is just brittle in longer lengths. I dont expect Excalibur for $13.00 but as I said it matches my full sized Operative sword.BTW I usually wont spend as little as $89.00 on a sword I just happen to live about 30 min from Museum Replicas and it felt like a fun piece for the price when i stopped by. I guess i'm not known on the forum I dont post much but I have been collecting for about 35 years, At the moment times are a bit tough but I still have a varied collection from cheap wallhangers i like and look good hanging on my wall to my 3 Jody Samsons (God rest him) I would rather go to another cutting party with the operatives sword a MR sword or a Rymon or Paul Chen Katana than over using my Jody Samsons or Michael Radar. I only put the knife in question on the thread because it seems to match exactly the operatives sword POS or not I dont know if some one else might like something to match (if they dig Serenity) wether used or not. Hey it's a sword forum we all cant agree (cant we all just get along)

My recently nuetered cat resents that remark! ;D. Seriously though, yeah, my collection is mostly junk. Although, that was only because I knew absolutely nothing at the time and had no clue that stainless steel wasn't functional. Thanks to SBG, I'm now a full-fledged 'functional only' collecter . (Now how to pawn off those cheap SLO's.... ) -Slayer

Stainless knives are functional, yes. But just like a sword, cheap knives don't hold up.
Granted, CRKT isn't an expensive knife, but it's a well-crafted production piece. It holds up well. Try doing the same jobs with the cheapo folders, balisongs, etc that one finds at the local flea market, and if it doesn't break, you'll atleast be resharpening it every couple days.
My point it that the material might be ok, on it's own, but the heat-treatment is gonna be dogpoo for that price.
I just hate to see people wasting money on something that's total garbage. That $13 could be reinvested in something nicer, as oppose to something with less than zero in resale value.

I loved Serenity... maybe you don't like the 'style' of the movie... or maybe you would have liked it better if you had watchd Firefly... or maybe not. Who knows? I enjoyed the first Blade movie, thought the next two were crap, but even the first one didn't come anywhere NEAR the awesomeness of Serenity for me. ;D

Wow dude you cant even to agree to disagree we seem to have differing opinons. I dont want function,I liked serenity and the only thing that looks different between the two is the shorter one dosent have a wood handle it's just cord wrapped.Seems a few people liked the movie and as rough as the economy is out there if you cant afford the real sword be creative, pay the $13.00 for the shorter sword make a wood plaque to mount it to and buy a cheap movie poster off ebay and you have a display from a movie you really dug for under say$30.00 Dam I'd hate to hear your opinion on the Marto Conan swords with stainless blades they are like $500.00 but I bet they look great on the wall,If you like it not everything has to be functional, some people collect just for display!

If you don't want function, then there's nothing wring with the purchase.
Though I still don't see the point. It only bears a vague resemblance to the sword used in the movie. There's no point in buying it if you actually HAVE the sword from the movie. There wasn't a matching dagger in the movie, so buying both would be silly.
Save up,and buy the reaver weapons instead. Even decent-looking knock-offs of those would look better than that silly knife.
I mean, I just can't imagine trying to explain that thing on the wall. Especially if you can afford, AND OBVIOUSLY HAVE, the licensed replica already
I literally cannot grasp the point.

Actually I would love to buy the reaver sword but without the axe or plaque.I know the axe has a lot to do with the reavers but this time it's me that dosent like somethings looks. If anyone knows where I can just buy or trade for the sword let me know.
