Gah...no need to bring this to the japanese sword board thank you very much. There is enough of that soul and spirit hogwash associated with katanas already .

...But in CS DVD they show that you can break cinder block with the hilt of theier hand and a half , punch through car door and steel drum ,cut aluminum trash can in half etc. Does this what we need in a fight against opponent who wear steel plate armor ? I mean you bang that butt cap against his helm and his chest plate probably not as thick as the car door ?

Darksword was tested by Paul and we know the hilt will take a beating and keep on ticking! .................SanMarc.

i watched several videos here from both but i have to say darkswords swords look better to me ... i think both will stand against all normal targets and in a normale full contact fight what is shown in the CS videos is cool but i think noboby has tried it with a darksword yet and thats why there is no such a video for these blades the special "tricks" shown inside the coldsteel videos, i don´t know if you can do them at home without weaken the blade, but why should you want to pirce threw a car door ^^? hmm i saw somthing similar in the darksword destruction test videos, there was also a massive stoneblock cut in half by a DSA sword www.sword-buyers-guide.com/knight-sword.htmlits at the end of the page

A swordfight has a lot to do with your mental state. If someone have confidence in his sword, it will give him an edge in a fight. I have the remains of a Cold Steel Hand-&-a-half sword. It had a very hard, well heat treated blade that was extremely sharp and was one of the best handling, best cutting bastard swords I have owned. Unfortunately, the hilt was held together by a soft piece of threaded rod that was poorly welded to the tang, obviously after the heat treat was done. It broke in short order and the sword literally fell apart in my hand. Luckily, I was finished cutting with it and was carrying it away from the cutting area when it disassembled itself. I cut down the blade to shift the whole hilt 1.5 inches forward, then filed it down and re-threaded the tang. It broke on the first few cuts. On examination, the way the heavy pommel screws onto the tang provides way too much leverage against the thin, fragile part that's threaded, making it very easy to break with two hands. IMO it's a very flawed design, and is prone to breakage under normal two-hand usage. If challenged to a duel and offered a Cold Steel hand-&-a-half as my only sword choice... I would try to find a good sturdy piece of pipe instead. Gah - such potential, ruined by bad hilt construction...

I certainly hope Cold Steel is paying attention........or are they selling so many to people who don't kmow any better or don't care (for display) that they aren't interested in upgrading their designs to please the fewer better informed?

Hey, mate! Join the crowd. I'm 14, and can never convince my Mom that swords ARE worth the money, lol! I wouldn't say over an Albion, at least not the $700+ range, but their squire line compared to DSA's best, like the Gothic...yeah, DSA is my choice, lol! (Hope you're watching, Eyal! ) My goal is to get one of every DSA model ever made. Lofty ideals, I know, but I bet I can do it eventually. Oh, yeah, and I want to get all of Brenno's stuff, not to mention all the VA signiture's, and about $10,000 worth of assorted blades from various companies... Yeah, I'm gonna be very poor when I grow up! ;D ...though I WILL be surrounded by loads of sharp, pointy objects, and what more could you ask then that? ;D -Slayer

lol, I think I want the Norman and the Witch king (currently a custom), Then I'll work my way down the line My dad is the problem, he thinks that 50 cents is too much for a candy bar! And here I go spending 275 dollars on a sword, which he thinks is completely pointless. My mom's fine with it, which is good Keep hastling the man! musicalpoo/Quinn

I got my sword dull, and yet, I can use it to split wood for fires, break down non-functional chairs to fit in garbage cans (that is ludicrously fun), and use it as a solid lever to open large crates that have been screwed on with stripped screws! I truly, truly hope you don't really use your sword for such tasks... Even a Darksword blade will eventualy bend and get jackd up subjected to such abuse... especialy the Gothic Two Handed sword (which I have also) because of it's longer, thinner blade. Swords are for cutting things, not use as crowbars and axes... ack! If you like your Gothic Two Handed Sword like I do, stop abusing it... poor thing.

I would choose DSA over an albion......its certainly the king of beaters.....I can use it to split wood for fires, break down non-functional chairs to fit in garbage cans (that is ludicrously fun), and use it as a solid lever to open large crates that have been screwed on with stripped screws! .... I can't see how you can make any real comparison between a DSA and an Albion. sure if you want a crowbar then choose a DSA but in a fight I would choose the lightness, the balance, and the razor sharp blade of a an Albion over a DSA. Ive handled a DSA Medieval Knight Sword, and I own an Albion , and quite frankly the Albion is in a completely different league. Re the original question, I’ve not handled any CS swords so my answer is based purely on hearsay. DSA seem to be fairly reliable swords where as I’ve heard so many bad things about the quality of CS. I would have to go for DSA. The last thing you want is the tang snapping off with the first blow.

I would choose DSA over an albion. I have experience with Darksword (I own the two-handed gothic), and It's certainly the king of beaters. Plus it's shiny Since I'm 13, and my dad isn't a huge fan of my sword obsession, I got my sword dull, and yet, I can use it to split wood for fires, break down non-functional chairs to fit in garbage cans (that is ludicrously fun), and use it as a solid lever to open large crates that have been screwed on with stripped screws! Anyways, I would definitely recommend DSA, but wait a while before you purchase, I hear they're coming out with a Witch King sword in March Why in god's name are you using a sword for that?!? Not only WILL you damage the blade...even a DSA blade, but it is bloody dangerous. If you do not wish to use a deadly weapon safely, please do the community a favor and just hang it up on the wall and leave it there. This is so irresponsible...so bloody moronic...geh...and if I could get to you, I would smack you in the back of the head until you came to your senses. As for being tough...albions will run circles around a DSA even on that grounds. While DSA may have the extra metal, I promise you that an albion has the MUCH better heat treatment. Even the squireline will surpass DSA by miles...and for what the cost...it should.

I dont think that blaming the kid is the right thing to do, take me back at his age with a sword in hand and with no parental supervision at all i would probably do something similar if not worse. I really think that the problem is elsewhere. As for us we can at least provide guidance to this kid explaining him to treat this weapon with the respect it deserves, since that blunt or not this is a real weapon and should be handled as such. Regarding the toughness of the two blades i think we would have to make a test which would never happen, regardless of that the two really cant be compared in any other department

I was taught how to shoot a gun when I was 9. I had a pocket knife of some sort since I was 11. I had a crossbow of my own at 12 and a bow at 14. I'm sorry but young age or not, I knew these things were dangerous and could kill. My dad didn't have to supervise me, I knew to do foolish things with such weapons would result in the death of others or myself. If your too immature to realize this, then you should not be handling weapons...period. And that has nothing to do with age. I see people in their 30s and 40's who should not be handing weapons either.
And yes I do realize this is coming from somebody who pissed off the triad because he was bored...so what does that say about how foolish this is...eh?

I still think that parental supervision/teaching/responsability is the critical point here and i dont think that your commentary will help get this kid any more mature. But then again, that's just my opinion.

But then again, that's just my opinion. That can work...but usually when they get to a point where they see weapons as toys like musicalpoo seems to have gotten to, it's usually too late for that. Peer censure generally works better at that point. Or when somebody gets hurt bad...but we are trying to avoid that.

I'm afraid that I have to agree with Napalm on this one ... For once! ;D Musicalpoo is being a BIT overzealous in both his posting and his actions IMO. But then again, was I any different when I joined? ;D
