Of the trio of swords I just recieved from John, this one has the oldest history. The original idea was spawned nearly 10 years ago, back in the ArmArt days. I had come up with an idea for a sword that I wanted to have made that would be very personalized with my family crest etc.... It wouldnt be until years later that the idea would be realized. John was very excited to take on this project, and I must appolgize to him because i was VERY picky about alot of the details. He did alot of work on the artwork for the etchings... The etchings on the pommel are of the Stokes Family crest, the etchings on the guard feature an "S" logo that John designed as well as the Musashi dragon head logo that has somewhat became my personal logo that i use on my stationary, business cards etc... The hilt fittings are made of bronze, the handle is wrapped with white ray skin and the blade is single fullered, made of random pattern damascus that is just mind blowing. This is my FIRST damascus bladed sword, and its really something else to see. John did a spectacular job on this sword, not only with the way it looks, but it also is very well balanced. The 31" blade is super sharp, which is to be expected from John, and VERY light and fast in the hand. This sword was designed from the ground up to be an heirloom peice, but its functionality is equaled only by its beauty.

Am I allowed to ask how much it cost? That is a stunning piece of work indeed.

SURE you're allowed to ask!!! ;D
but im allowed not to answer! ;D ;D ;D ;D
In all seriousness, i prefer not to discuss the costs of my custom peices as i see that as a private arrangement between buyer and maker, and like all my business, i keep it as private as possible. i WILL say its the most expensive sword i own :-)

Mother of God, that is an absolutely stunning piece. The XI blade with that hilt truly is unique! I am very envious, to be certain. Your children and their children will no doubt enjoy the piece for generations to come.
Congrats on the acquisition. ;D

So you know, this is typically what I think of when I picture the perfect Fantasy sword. Something well-grounded in historical precedence (blade typology, etc), while still being completely unique and artistic. After looking at this thread several times, I'm still captivated by it. +1 karma for sharing it.

yeh i aggree, thats why John Rawks!
He can make something that is historically PLAUSIBLE!
I mean the family crest on the pommel is 100% accurate to my family crest... the fitting shapes are historical. the blade shape is historical.......

My only advice if you want to is to send it to brian of DBK and get a scabbard to match the beauty of the blade. May we see pictures of the other 6?

Maybe you could consider a gallery of your collection here [ /index.cgi?board=collections ] with the rest of us. (that goes for everyone else who haven't posted their collections ), I'm sure we'd all love to see these other odins and whatever else you have. And John's photography on his website leaves much to be desired, so we'd love to see your pics. (No offence John )

Im sure Brian does great work, but i am very satisfied with my 100% Odinblade sword. Johns scabbards are great looking and tough as nails! Oh, as for the other Odins... heres about the best I have so far...
