The Visit Canada website has some info on traveling to Canada that might be useful to some. FWI getting a passport takes a little while, so plan ahead. Copied from that site: Adults traveling to and from Canada by land (bus and train): After June 1, 2009: Adults will need proof of identity and citizenship in the form of a passport or what is being called a “passport card” or "pass card", which is a lower-cost, wallet-sized document that is not available yet, but soon will be.

About planes, I believe if you have your sword carefully packed and in the luggage compartment of the plane with all the other bags, it's not a problem...I brought back a rapier from Spain by plane -in december 2001, mind you- and there was no problem (well, the custom lady that verified -read: "opened"- my package had fun handling it but then repacked it and said "nice sword, no problem, have a nice trip"...I then had 20 stickers "Fragile" on my package and was a nervous wreck the whole flight worrying that my sword would arrive bent...lol...(it arrived fine, thought)
I'd store the sword in a rigid case for peace of mind...
Then again, as for flying from the States into Canada, I'd check with proper authorities...just to be sure...but, reasonably, a package is a package in the baggage hold...Canada is strict about guns but very relax as to swords, in my experience anyway.
Everybody will need a passport to go anywhere soon enough...sadly, the days when I could ride my bike to Vermont, a beautiful ride, without more than saying hello to the guy at the border are long gone...

Aint that a fact! I remember a fishing trip up to Canada in the 70's where me and two guys drove up to the border pulling a boat that was not ours and with no proof of the owner's consent. Drove right through with a wave!

Depending on the state Passports can take up to 6 months to get (My mom and sister went to germany last summer and had to apply for passports 8 months in advance to make sure they would have them).
So definately allow ample time to get a passport, besides it might always come in handy for something else

ok guys,,i have sent request to all dealers in SBG forum so, will wait for their answers. as soon as i got the answers, i will start to check it out for the t-shirts and how we will make them. we need to sell t-shirts as soon as possible,,i was thinking around the begginning of january because we have to be prepared. if we want to have enough to import cutting mats (6 feet high), feed every one,, and buy some more swords for winning contest of any kind. as soon as i have all answers from dealers,, i'll put them all on a list to show you all. after that i'll make a poll to see how much t-shirt we will start with. marc

Parry Sound! That is pretty close for me. A very nice scenic road for bikers. Although, not sure if strapping your sword on your back might get some unwanted attention!
I will probably be there!
Cheers!

So I talked to madre about it, and she said if I could get a gps and a friend to go with me, then I'd be ok for the road trip. woot!
So all I need is a gps, a few hundred bucks, tent/sleeping bags, food, etc. hmmm, gotta work on a better "to bring" list

all people that will, just, join UBC, and buy a t-shirt will be elligible for a lot of prizes guys. that is how we will be able to make this happen. being a UBC member and a SBG member doesn't hurt any one. Paul gave me his benediction about inviting you guys to UBC,, they are two different kinds of forums. almost all prizes will be for members that will have buy their t_shirt,,, and a couple of biggest prizes will be kept for the cutting party for sure. so,,,you can join UBC and when it is time,,you buy your t-shirt,,have chances to win prizes and help us make that happen. [glow=red,2,300]this cutting party has been started by jonis and Randy higgins two UBC members, two friends of mine, i just help them for it to happen and get bigger.[/glow] marc

So, if you join UBC and buy a t-shirt you can win a prize without attending the event in Canada?
