I have not used this sword for cutting but its prior owner did some cutting of water bottles.

That is a nice type XVI, very similar blade stats to the Albion Crecy. If I had not already bought Todd's Reeve, I would have jumped on this deal.

'Protector' is one of Maciej's highly tuned personal projects, and is generally a XVIa and focused on the 14th century (another is Aculeus, 15th century longsword). You could think of it as a sword made for a master swordsman of that time period... Here is some good info about this type of sword and the inspirations behind it:
And FYI, here is the gallery page for this actual sword:
This one is a bit heavier (1470g) than some other Protector versions (mine is 1300g) and Crecy (1390g). I have not handled this sword, but I would bet it is very agile, stiff, and would be great for longsword techniques and practice (the scabbard is a nice bonus).
Can you comment on the current grip color? Looks like it started out as oxblood but in the latest photos looks basically black? Each set of photos looks different, so just curious what it actually is now.

The grip is very much what I would think of as dark brown. Perhaps Albion’s version of oxblood. I believe the contrast in the original owner’s pics was done by adjusting saturation.
