Nice, This along with the Hanwei Tinker Viking is on the must get list of norse blades, I love the Scabbard and Belt design, it lets you either strap it to your waist or have it as a baldric which was traditional either way, thats brilliantly done and really captured me. The blade good, the handle looks handy, I still reckon the pommel could be bigger and the two lobes off centre proportioned up a bit but I like that its a unconventional (just kinda looks a little like a stubby manhood to me or maybe thats my perverseness at work), all the risers look like its trying to move from the "club grip" but I'm for that with Norse/Saxon models, but its highly attractive to say the least. Aside from that I think the furniture needs a little noise, something to give it "Norse Flair" as they were prone to do, the sword was the big status symbol of the culture and they let everyone know it too, a bit of runes or knotwork or even just some stamped design lines or dots otherwise the vanilla surface seems underwhelming, otherwise seems a little like a Castille re-done. But saying that I'd probably buy it if you sold as is tommorow ...... Norse Force BABY!!!

I agree with brissybeater that although it looks very good it looks too much like a Castile redone. Maybe adding some runes to the blade would help give it something extra. The scabbard and guard could have some designs on it as well.

I know its prototype which isnt "Bang!!! Ship It!!!" version but I just feel it needs something to break it up and to catch the eye without being too overboard or being a pain to implement (cost I feel is irrelevent, less hassle in the make less problems getting a quality blade). It might just be the oxblood color that reminds me of the Castille which was fairly spartan in its furniture presentation (but thats exactly what suited it). Something a little overt and in your face would suit the Hedemark. Just not copper diamonds like Gen 2 River Whitham.

I disagree with adding anything to the hedemark. It is a lot like the Castile since it is a type X blade and a very simlar cross, really not much to be done about it other than scrap the whole thing and I don't think anyone wants that.
so we have a spanish type X and a viking type X, so what? that's cool. if it really needs to be more different than the Castile (which I wouldn't mind) then I think the only reasonable thing would be to give it a different cross guard.
I like it the way it is.

I'm thinking of a wider fuller, keep the hilt and pommel, that will let people be able to customize it to their taste......SanMarc.

Well I was figuring, this being a Signature model that the customisation was done for you per se. As an aussie this blade (or any at the moment) is gonna cost me about 60 - 70% more then the yanks to get, throwing in our crappy dollar and over the ocean shipping so spending more to tweak it afterwards doesnt really thrill me. I like the Signature designs cause Christian and Gus do the leg work, and I like to support. So I like to see a full effort going into the initial product cause my bank account needs sweet talking to buy the blade in the first place ......... Spirit is willing but the stomach (which needs feeding) is weak ......... Bloody economic crisis ........ The furniture is good, hope it balances well, I just want the Hedemark to have a little decorative bling as was appropriate for the culture, Castilles, Kriegswerts, Bristols were all war swords born out of commissioned military forges so the smooth, simple lines look very apt. Viking's were another breed . I would pay more on the initial buy for the labor involved in stamping, etching, however of the furniture.

Yes, for you this is true, I would think that the standard model just has a black covered handle and scabbard. And what do you mean ya got's to feed the belly! Thats how I keep my svelte figure! Buying swords and Harley parts.... SanMarc.

The narrower fuller gives it a little more of a Type XI blade form. I'd definately like to see a wider fuller, but in the end it does not matter because I will end up owning one anyway.
As for the base models scabbards, keep in mind that these are the exact same wood cores used on the Signature models. You should strip the base scabbard and custom do your own. You even get a free chape to work with. ;D
+1 on the swords and Harley parts. I have to add in firearms though as well which is a whole new realm of expense that makes my sword habit look tame by comparison.

Eh, the fuller's so long that it looks far more like an Xa, and that's acceptable for the sword, really. The Castile already has a wide-fullered type X. It's neat to see some variation.

Wow. I really want one of these. I've been aching for a viking sword to go along with my love for viking metal.
