It's not a type IV...but the IV-1787 is the number of the example in a museum . The blade type looks to be a type XVa. It is a very nice looking sword...and I don't think anyone has reviewed one on here yet so maybe you can be the first. I would call KoA and ask about the whippiness of the blade first though. Along with what they notice off the hilt assembly. They are nice and friendly and should be of a great help. And the weight not to bad for a sword of this size and blade style. So so far, it looks to be a good sword and a call to KoA should be able to handle the rest. Just a warning about type XV swords however...if you wanna cut with one, being able to find and strike at the CoP is very important. Most swords can cut if you don't hit the sweet spot. This is less true of XV swords in general...and the narrow XVa swords are basically the hardest sword to cut with. But it will basically give you rather absolute feedback on if you did something right or not . I like em personally. Makes me know when I messed up.

Yep, seems we do Mordrent. Nice looking blade on that first link! Second link sent me to some other non-sword pictures, some charity event I think. I'll try that one again later. Thanks Mordrent! +1

Hey Mr. Ridgeway, just saw your post. Thanks for the pic. The links did not work for me. I can't paste because all of my forum browsing and posting is done via iPhone. Don't have a computer. My laptop had an unfortunate incident at a job site. My iPhone is my computer until I get around to getting me a new one. Does just fine for mostly everything though. Thanks for helping out though Mr. Ridgeway, I appreciate it.

a lot of the claymores and stuff with 40 inch blades are 40 inch blades because the first 12 inches are covered in leather, same goes for the flamberge. I would recomend either the DSA's two handed Gothic (my sword) or the hanwie bastard sword, I have no experience with the hanwei sword though, but it looks decent enough. sbg-sword-store.sword-buyers-guide.com/gothic.html/index.cgi?board=swordreviews&action=display&thread=7149

I didn't want to resurrect the thread to mention it, but now that it is, I have to say the Hanwei Scottish Lowlander looks pretty darn cool. 48" blade, 6' overall. There's a review in the review section with good video and pictures.

Tenken mate, If I may throw in my two cents.... I'll advocate for the Hanwei German Bastard. That was my first sword and I'm absolutely in love with it. It's not the fastest sword out there, admittedly, but other than that, the handling's pretty dern good. The blade's actually decently stiff too, so you can definitely take to poking things with it. It cuts pretty well, and I've never sharpened mine from their "factory" edge. With the right edges on it, it'd be a BEAST and a half of a sword. Plus, it's a peened (read, durable) pommel with a good heat treat. At least mine has a good one, but if you get it from KOA or somewhere, they'd be good about a send back if you get a bad one. And mate, if you're really as tall as you are then it's a perfect sword for you. I'm 6'5" and this sword is exactly the right length for me, and you've got more muscle on you than I have. Last thing, it's only 200 with shipping and handling. I'd say get it.
