While browsing I found a past auction listing for an An XI light cavalry sabre with only the main knuckle guard. According to the listing, the removal of the other two guard bars was a "regulatory modification" dating to the Restoration, but I can't find any info about it.
Granted, my lack of French cuts me out from a lot of information, but I would imagine something would be available...

I think that's a fabrication from the auctioneer to prevent the value from dropping too much. That said, several French sabres were sold to the Polish and Finnish armed forces in the 1920s who subsequently removed the outer bars. While these were later models of sabre (the 1822 if I recall correctly) it is possible some An XI's were in that mix.
Just note that any Finnish-issued sabres will feature the SA army property stamp.

Interesting, thanks!! The only reason I got curious is that I recently picked up one very similar sword in a bundle at an auction. It definitely looks like an An XI hilt, and i can even see where the bars used to connect, although the scars have been well smoothened to the point it might be difficult to notice right away.
I initially thought it might be just a random modified sword, or perhaps an adaptation after the hilt broke, then I stumbled onto this old listing, and it got me thinking. Can images be added here?

By the way, I just looked at the post below this one, asking about a possible Napoleonic sabre, and it looks exactly the same as mine!!!!
Talk about a small world 🌍
