First of all let me say I really wanted this katana. This was the second one I ordered. The first one was lost by Fedex about a year ago.
Note: Is made by Huanuo Sword Art, the same forge for Dynasty Forge and Cold Steel Katana's.
My short review: 3 inch section of the blade wasn't paper cutting sharp. Leather strop took care of that. Now on to the major issue. Saya and tsuba are way off. See pictures. Looks to me that the tsuka wasn't installed correctly. They added a long wood shim on top of the Nakago in order to fill in the 1/4 inch gap.
When I contacted Sword & Armory about this, the reply was this is within the exceptional margin of error and it would be fine to use. Maybe so, but value wise it wasn't ok. I asked about a exchange and if they would actually open another box and inspect for defects. Nope they refused becasue this was a $300 sword. So I am getting a full refund. They even tried a 10% discount then on to a 15% refund if I wanted to keep it.
I was thinking OMG open the box before shipping and avoid problems like this.
At this point I am not sure what happened with Sword & Armory. Before covid they were a great company and now not so much.

pictures aren't coming up
sucks they won't open up other swords and inspect them. that would be a deal breaker for me.
might as well order something from LongQuan and pray for the best instead. That's the whole reason to go through a shop/middleman in the US

Kouken is like a Dynasty Forge Musha shobu. The mount quality shown in your pictures is common for that sword, including the shim. I've actually seen worse. Those huanou-made 1060 TH shobus have a good rep for cutting performance.
