Hi ALl, I moved to a new house, but my stuff was in storage for months. I got to my shoe pile and my period nordic shoes are all coated with some white substance. Is this mold? Any suggestions on restoration? FOr the record, these are darkish brown.

Unless it smells moldy or gross, that's probably just what they call "fatty spue" (spew), or fatty bloom. It's common after storage if there's been changes of humidity or temperature. If it disappears after you rub it with your finger, that's what it is. It's a result of the tanning process. It doesn't harm the leather. You can clear it up temporarily with a blow dryer, just don't heat the leather too much, because you can damage it.
Personally, I would get a bottle of suede protectant/conditioner at a shoe store. It won't work immediately, but over time it will dilute the fats out. There are other cures online, but I'm not sure how much I trust them! Suede is always tricky, and a lot of them appear to be out to sell you a product.

Brilliant! I'll give it a shot and post the results.
