My Spidey sense tells me it will be identified as coming from South China or Vietnam, but I’ll let others venture a stronger assertion.

My guess is that mrbadexample is correct as to the location. The quillon reminds me of Southern China. But while separate countries the culture to some degree tends to spread to neighbouring countries such as ‘Nam, Thailand, etc. Could you give us some statistics such as blade length, blade thickness, etc.?

Blade length is about 24 1/2" L. Thickness of blade at hilt is 5/16" L. Thickness of blade at point is 1/16" L. Length of hilt/handle is 4 1/4" L. Length of whole sword is 29"

My guess also is that served as a tool/weapon rather than a dedicated weapon. Thanks for the specs.

So I did some quick digging and found one called a Filipino bolo sword/knife. Appears to have some blade style and quillion/hilt. Says it was used as a tool or weapon and tended to be a little smaller than a regular sword.

Ah. Interesting. According to the article I linked below, there appears to be some Chinese influence on Filipino grips. The blade is different, but the grip shape looks very similar. That and the detail of where the edge starts after the ricasso does appear to point to Luzon. www.mandarinmansion.com/item/rare-philippine-fighting-knife

Still gunna do some more digging, let me know if you find anything else!

Hey guys! Question for y'all... I was wondering if anyone could give me any information on this sword I have come across. It seems to be an old cutlass, possibly falchion... I'm still new to identifying swords and this one has been giving me some trouble. It has no makers marks what so ever, only an inscribed "30" on the blade, so I was wondering if anyone could give me a starting point based off its looks. Any help is greatly apricated! IMHO, late Spanish colonial, probably from the Philippines.
